if I weren’t stuck indoors doing taxes and work . . .
Anyway. Checked on the epoxy this a.m. & it looks like it’ll hold well enough for now. -

Shift rod got fixed. I installed it and can dry-shift all four gears and reverse (I think).
Also added some copper to my oil fill. I think that’s licked too.So, progress. -

Builder error. But harmless, unless you are a tall person. And easily remedied with a couple afternoons and a few hundred bucks.
The backwards steering wheel, also easily fixed, is not inspiring of confidence.edsnova2014-03-27 19:24:56

Thanks, guys. My next best idea is to sink a 3/4-inch 45-degree copper plumbing fitting in there, fit the ends together nice and snug and fiberglass it. I think glass resin should withstand the 200F this will have to take, and the copper inset should keep it pretty well together.
More work than I feel like doing, but so is everything else on this project. -

There’s a product called “Q-Bond”. It’s a formulation of “super glue” used in conjunction with a powder that sets up like a rock in seconds. The kit has two powders, one for metals and one for plastic. If you shorten that connector to where there’s only a small gap, add some powder, then the glue, I think it would probably work. That’s just me.…[Read more]

So the filler tube is made out of something that doesn’t melt–maybe Zylon? 3M says they have an epoxy that works on Zylon but I’m not finding any advocates of this product in the real world and the Zylon spec sheet (pdf) says use Resorcinol-Ethanol solvent cement, which appears to be something you make yourself because everyone is a DuPont…[Read more]

Here’s what it looks like on the original. Mine is twisted 90 degrees cuz that’s the only way it’ll fit. But most of you-all have the tank girth necessary to mount yours longitudinally, as original.

Thanks, Gabe. Yeah, I’m not too worried about the filler neck. Didn’t know about that particular kind of epoxy though. Thanks!

Bumpers should be the same height and stand off a couple inches from the body, You should have (or get) some spring-like brackets–four of them–two for each bumper. Those mount to the frame but on my car (and I think on TDs) the back ones are spaced away by some aluminum spacers about an inch and a half long. They’re like pipe sections.
