I was the doubter, or one of them. No offense meant. These cars only need 50 hp to move along smartly. I think I have less than that in mine and I’ve topped 75 mph on a two lane with plenty of room under my foot.Might put her on the dyno this year at Carlisle to see though.

When it’s 25 degrees out, what’s wrong with a parka and a full face helmet?

I just noticed that your cable brack looks unmodified. I recall the initial
installation instructions called for notching the bracket and changingthe angle that the cable approaches the throttle linkage. The factoryPinto cable had worked fine on that setup for years until I upgradedther engine. -

My engine runs an ’87 truck number. I forget the exact application, but
it fit the pedal and reached the carb. Spend a sunny afternoonin a salvage yard. -

If your problem is a 3/4-inch slab of wood for a dash, you could also use a blade drill to relieve the inside of it. Overdrill through the fiberglass first–an inch and a half diameter hole will more than do it; smaller is better. Then put a 1 1/8 inch wood bit in the wiper switch hole from the back. Crank it in a quarter inch and test fit the…[Read more]

I’ll go. I think a bunch of Speedster guys are thinking it’s good.BTW, just got my window sticker for the show field from the Carlisle peeps. Great! Also in the envelope: a bonus “camping” sticker in the name of a “James Ericson.” If anyone knows who that is, pipe up. Maybe I can send it to him.edsnova2012-04-23 18:42:44

Way to go Scott. Can’t hardly beat that Chevette drivetrain buy.Roy: the 4.3L GM V6 is a small block chevy V8 with two cylinders cut off. So the width is the same, but it’s about 4 inches shorter. (The 3.8 once found in turbo’d Buick Grand Nationals is basically the same).A lot of the MG swap guys go with the 60-degree V6–2.8 liters, 3.1 liters,…[Read more]

Mine has all but stopped doing that since I set the idle. I believe it was running way too rich before, and that contributed to it. Your mileage may vary. But it might do to tune her up, in order:1. check valve tappet clearance and adjust as needed2. set the timing3. adjust the idle and carb mixture

If you pull a wheel off your car you can measure the back spacing & get a pretty good idea how well the new ones would fit. Get the back spacing for the new wires, and the width of those, and compare to the width and back spacing you have now.

edward ericson replied to the topic Computing Compression Ratios in the forum General Discussion 13 years, 5 months ago
AH, OK. I thought not.And that cool plugs/hot test paradox is just one of several, isn’t it. I ran a compression test a few years back on the Mercury outboard that came with my boat. Supposedly it was a runner; I should’ve done the test before I shelled out the $1,000 for the boat. One cylinder gave zero (0) compression. I never tested Bridget’s…[Read more]

Montie,I think those may be the wheels I have on mine – I think I paid about 350.00 to my door at the time. They told me it would fit the 4x 130mm, but it was not so – I had to have a local machinist re-drill my rotors/hubs for 50.00 total. They work real nice on my ride and I like them – the off set is wrong if they are to fit under the fenders.…[Read more]

edward ericson replied to the topic Wire Wheels in the forum General Discussion 13 years, 5 months ago
The problem with used wires is that the splines in the hubs are often rounded off. Not always, but usually. That’s why people take them off. Then the wheels sit around in a shed for 10 years, or 20, or more, and get a little crusty and rusty. Then someone finds them and they’re like, “Hey! Wire wheels! These are worth money! I’ll sell ’em on…[Read more]

If I were you, I’d buy the wire wheel kit from Rimmer Bros and make it fit. The MGB/MGA, Triumph TR3/4 (etc.) knock offs are made to fit on a 4 x 4.5 hub. That’s like 113mm or so. Looking at the hubs, it’s clear that one could re-drill them for a 4 x 100 pattern. Plenty of room for it and won’t hurt the strength any.The correct wheels for a TD are…[Read more]
