“Show bar” roll bars can fit under the canvas, but will do you little good, and maybe even some harm, if you ever do flip it. A real bar will be too high for the roof. I had a thought of making a bayonet mount for a roll bar, but I doubt that would really work without a lot more engineering than I’m capable of. Probably would not pass SVRA…[Read more]

I am all-in on the doo-rag. In fact, I just requested from my wife a Union Jack-patterned doo-rag for my birthday. Those who have met me know I am quite balding. So why? To NewKitman’s question, then:Sunburn. No hair means the sun beats down on my head directly, but a clean shave up there would allow for neat application of sun screen. It’s an…[Read more]

You’re thinking right. I’ve not seen it though. Say, with that 8 up front, shouldn’t you be thinking roll bar anyway?

No pics. I saw a custom one on ebay last year and it went for hundreds. Thought I grabbed a pic but can’t find it.Easy build though. Get a piece of one-by hardwood (furniture grade) and a piece of c-channel stainless or aluminum. Some clear 1/4-inch plexi and some hinges. Wood on the bottom, then hinge to plexi so it can fold down when not in use.…[Read more]

You must keep the tins in that keep the upper and lower parts of the engine
away from each other – otherwise you will get all the heat from the exhaust
area back into the upper engine area – more heat!
I solved this issue for my car by installing two scoops made from HVAC duct
and ran 3 or 4″ lines up to my front firewall that pushed cool air into…[Read more] -

Yep. Just like all those cars made before about 1968. You should be emissions exempt.Best place for the vent hole might be inside the luggege space, on top of the filler neck. Tap in like a 1/8″ tube and extend it up an inch or two (as far as you can), then put a rubber hose on it and route that down to the front wheel well. If you want to get…[Read more]

My car died once, in the early going, for exactly that reason. I swapped out the fuel filter and have not had an issue since. If it persists that POR stuff to coat the tank may be in order. The idiot book has your timing specs and pictures of the several types of Type 1 pulleys, with the notches. Mine is different–two notches only. But the first…[Read more]

I think Dennis may be on to the answer – Richard had the same issue last
year at Carlisle – it would run for a while then lose power and die. His issue
was a plugged up tank at the bottom. I think I would clean out the tank and
make sure your fuel line is clean – blow it out backward w/ compressed air.
Make sure the tank lid is vented or make sure…[Read more] -

For the gauge issue, maybe pull the fuel sender and bend the float rod down a bit. Costs nothing and it might work. For the spillage: sorry. I was a gas pump jocky in the 1980s and recall it as the era of spilled gas. For some reason, cars made from the late ’70s to the late ’80s very often had this problem. No reason to think the kit cars would be…[Read more]

I’ll second that. And never forget that basic, key, advice, applicable to every car: always make sure your sparks are in order before turning even one screw on the fuel system.

To your question, B, “has anyone whittled down the seat box?” Yes. Check out the thread called “Another Project Reported” under My Projects. Montie has replied there to another tall new owner about how he (Montie) reshaped the box under his seats to gain some head and leg room. Photos pending. As for the foot box, to gild Paul’s response a…[Read more]

That mock seat looks about right for an after foam install. Here’s a site with a lot of detail info on the original TD. Those cars were tight for big guys but it’ll give you an idea about what they looked like. Here’s a pictorial of the renovation of a TD that was formerly owned by Angie Dickenson. You can see here that the back edge of the seat…[Read more]

They only save the images for 60 days. I suppose I could rebuild the thing but. . . . not super motivated tonight (long day at work). Sorry, Rich. The other thing would be for anyone who wants to follow the link, rip the photos from here (like I did) and make whatever you want–posters, calendars, whatever. While we’re on the subject, BTW, bigger…[Read more]

Thing’s got me confused. The leak seems to have stopped. The MC reservoir is still full. I drove the car today after work and it feels exactly the same as it did last week. Same brakes. Same everything.Guess I’ll rack her up this weekend and run some tests, see if the rear wheels are responding to the brake pedal.meantime, the new speedo cable…[Read more]

Thanks, Mark. I got the kit, I think, coil should be in the box. I talked to a guy at Peek a few weeks back (Sean, was it?). Super nice guy & hope to meet some day. Hear he’s moving across the Bay though, so maybe I can get to the PG County shop before that happens.

Not gas. Ordered a new German MC plus all the hard lines. Also a Pertronix igniter while I was at it, cause what the hell?$200 more but this time she’ll have totally new brakes AND no more points. Soon as the stuff comes, provided the temp has dropped enough that being outside doesn’t cause me seizures. Dang it’s hot out there.
