That one is also a front-engine car. And Gabe built his own chassis for it. He’s way skilled and much missed.
I’ve been contemplating how to get a usable roll bar on a pan-based TD. Best Way I can come up with would be to build the main hoop off the rear torsion housing. A couple of 1.5-inch tubes welded to it at the corners, with a couple of…[Read more]

Thinking of taking my BCW52 to Marietta Ohio for the Sternwheel Festival this weekend. Sternwheel show and live music/fireworks saturday and antique car show sunday. It would be an overnighter and there is no room in the car for luggage so..invested in a Runyon Rack (179.00, Engel Imports). . It’s a cleverly designed rack that fits over the…[Read more]

Gabe had built his car with a roll bar. He accompanied us to VA Beach a few years ago. Should be photos in here somewhere.

- I managed to get the thing fired up last night. Upon reassembly I found the crankshaft woodruff key as well as the timing belt crank gear keyway slot wore out. Basically the only thing holding the gear in place was the belt. I have a short block on a stand in the basement and luckily there was a good key and gear on that. If I get time tonight…

Ha! Yeah the holes won’t lighten it enough to matter, but they’re good decoration, and who ever parks a Spyder without lifting up the clamshell so’s everyone can see in? My aims here are three.
- See if I can develop any passable skills in sheet metal forming without investing in necessary tools such as an English wheel or even a bending brake.

I epoxied that missing piece back into place yesterday. Today it looks as if it will hold. As that sheave is not in use all it has to do is spin. Hope it stays together at speed.

Very good. I read the blog and it looks like a unique detail.
Why is it that the most work goes into stuff you never see as it rolls on down the road?

So this is not Bridget-related but I figured I’d update you-all on my other absurd plastic toy. Some of you know I bought an unbuilt Thunder Ranch Spyder kit back in April, picked up a Jake Raby-built 1915 Type 1 engine for it in May, and have been doing stoopid things to it ever since: instead of assembling the blasted car like a normal person…[Read more]

I don’t think that little imbalance will matter. I’d maybe check to make sure it’s not cracking up though.
Getting it done, man.

As you may have read, on the last Hillclimb, I had crankcase pressure issues.
I decided to remove the separator which has been in place untouched for about 20 years.
As the separator in under the intake , the side panel required removal.
The separator occupies the hole the socked is pushed into midphoto.
As the cam seal also blew,I…[Read more]
