Mine is not on a VW, but I had run 205/60R15 on the front with 235/60R15 on the rear with no problem. I now keep the same size front and rear.(what do you do when you have a flat?)

Very good. That’ll work.

3-5 degrees positive caster helps highway tracking if
tires are less than 6 years old
not over-inflated
toe-in is right
ball joints, steering knuckles, etc are all good (i.e. no play in them, but move freely under load)
Steering damper is good.
In your case I’d begin with tires. As much as we hate t6o throw out tires with good tread, 8 years…[Read more]

OK, finally, I got this picture to appear. (Took a half hour).
This cover is currently removed as the roll cage is still installed. Hillclimb Aug 19-20. I use large body clips that accept 5/16″ bolts. The hat simply bolts fast.
You’ll see along the top edge are the mounting holes for bolting the cover to the body tub. These can only be reached…[Read more]

Do NOT glass that in. You need to remove the hat to not only access the fuel sender and filler neck, but it’s the only access to the bolts that hold the rear cover to the body tub on that top edge. Once you put the tire on that hat, what’s behind it is hardly visible.

billnparts replied to the topic Ford kit front strut removal in the forum Chevy/Ford Kits 8 years, 2 months ago
The original MustangII front suspension used a strut rod that attached rearwards of the lower control arm and attached with rubber bushings to an angled bracket that bolted to the frame. There are companies that offer the lower arm as strutless and as such have no provision for the strut. Make sure the arms you’re using are strutless before you…[Read more]

There’s a shot of the whole system about halfway down this blog post. Basically it runs from passenger side port, forward and then under the engine/trans split, picks up the driver’s side and dumps straight into the cat (which my exhaust guy tried to talk me out of installing). From there it bends back down along the passenger side valve cover and…[Read more]

I put the shieldy sticky stuff on the bottom of the splash pan. I don’t think the stuff I bought is made to stick to exhaust pipes.
Key thing is not to let the exhaust pipe touch anything fiberglass. If it does, bend it down. If you can’t bend it with your “attitude adjustment bar” then break out the heat hammer (i.e. acetylene helper) or visit…[Read more]

David,
They way mine is set up it is the exhaust pipe that is against the apron vs the muffler. I ended up wrapping the pipe with exhaust heat wrap and then wired the shield to the pipe with stainless exhaust clamps used for the heat wrap and it worked just fine for the last two years.

I painted the bottom of my splash pan with white “high heat” paint, then applied the high heat tape from Advance Auto. No trouble since, and the Suby muffler is even closer and hotter than the VW one was.

David,
I had the same problem and tried all sorts of heat shield tape and other things to eliminate the problem and in the end it I found a heat shield at a junk yard from a modern SUV that shields the CAT from the bottom of the car – I assume it contains some type of very protective product that keeps the 1500-2000 degree CAT from catching the…[Read more]

Sure Ed – Sounds like a plan unless I can talk my wife into coming this year.
We have been down in the off season a couple of times since last year and she loves it so maybe this is the year.
I will get with you before we lock down a room.

edward ericson replied to the topic Brake Bleeder Fitting in the forum VW Based Kits 8 years, 3 months ago
Probably wouldn’t hurt but also shouldn’t need. Once you get them loose they should be fine as long as you crack them open again every other year or so—which you ought to do anyway when you change the brake fluid. If you strip them get new. They’re cheap and save a fair bit of agita messing around later with a vice grips. Ask me how I know.

DANG! Sorry, Roy. I did hear a horn and wave—silver SUV of some sort. Was that you? I wish I’d have recognized you because I would definitely have stopped.
That was me for sure on the way back home from Cars & Coffee at Hunt Valley. Saw our new member Adam there but I was in a rush to get home and set up for a party that afternoon. I excused my t…[Read more]
