  • During my restoration of “HERBIE”, I was on the way with my VW CHASSIS to my engine mechanic, (the body was on a hoist in the garage) and was rear ended by a SUV. Even though I had a Bright Orange flag tied around the motor, this lady hit my engine at the crankshaft pulley not once, but twice!! Long story short, she was sited for careless…[Read more]

  • Paul as usual you have been a wonderful resource. So thanks a bunch for clearing up potential issues of our TDr insurance that should show the “Agreed Repalcement Value”. The question now comes to be, what should we agree to the value of the our TDr’s to be?? I see so many different “For Sale Values”, how do we know if we have a $4000 car or a…[Read more]

  • How can we really tell the true cost of our MGTDr? What should we insure our cars for? If someone were to crash into our car, it probably would have to be totaled due to the cost of repair parts. That is if you could find the body parts…….. 😐 Thanks for your comments!Dave

  • http://www.okobojicc.com/the-occ-experience.phpThis is a great link for a Classic car museum, in Northwest Iowa. Arnold’s Park is a major attraction, so I am told. If you look at the museum’s inventory link, (on the bottom of the web page) you can find out about each of the cars, and their asking selling price. The original yellow MGTD, is only…[Read more]

I hope you are able to find a buyer for your MGTDr. I will be happy to forward your Craiglist for sale notice to all of my car club members here in Lakeland, Florida. Your asking price seems reasonable based on the work you have completed and the purchase of new wire wheels. How did you convert the original VW wheel mounts? The sure look great and…[Read more]

  • Hey y all, speaking of gasoline treatments, gas with ethanol in it, what harm does that do to our older VW engines? Should we use an additive, or try and find non ethanol?Just a thought”…………. Dave

  • I replaced the plastic shift rod bearing (located just under the stick shift base plate. I had to remove the shift rod out of the tunnel to replace it, because the bracket holding the plastic bearing has a circular slot that the bracket fits in. I also replaced the 2 plastic square pieces in the shift rod yoke (the yoke attaches the shift rod…[Read more]

Thanks for your thoughts Dave. One of my MG Car Club friends bought LED bulbs from Moss, for his original MGTC. He paid $26 per bulb. I am thinking an auto parts store, or maybe “Batteries Plus” store. They sure are a lot brighter, and yes use less current and last forever.Dave

  • I have also replaced the VW floor pan, fiber glassed all rust holes, and spray painted three coats of high gloss black Rustoleum paint. I have also replaced the shifter rod plastic bearing, and new Yoke at the transmission. I put on new shocks as well, and now my wife has given me a budget that I can spend each month!! At least she supports my…[Read more]

  • Every one’s opinion is sincerely appreciated. At a major car show today in Lakeland, Fl, there was an original MG that was REPAINTED during a major restoration in 2007. The owner ( a doctor) is a “Classic MG purist” and he had his body webbing painted and he has had no cracking paint on the webbing. I will follow several suggestions, and tape…[Read more]

  • Greetings and Welcome to this great site, with very knowledgeable members. I too have a “Classic Roadsters Duchess”, (Herbie which I built in 1985) You will not find a bracket for your “Wind Wing” as I have already contacted MG Magic. Your best option, is to use one of your other brackets, and have a duplicate made at a machine shop. If you do…[Read more]

“Herbie” spent some time outside during a long time ago divorce, and his British Racing Green color became quite faded. I tried several products of rubbing compounds and waxes, to no avail. I used 1000 grit wet sanding, and then a Boat Marine product called “Penatol”. It is a liquid fiberglass restorer, that you wipe on with a lint free towel. It…[Read more]

  • To make the cleaning of the wire terminals easier, and the cleaning of all of the grounded contact surfaces easier, I purchased the small driscoll like tool from Harbor Freight tools. It costs less then $10 and does an excellent job of precision work on the cleaning of the wire terminals and the spades on the gauges. I also used a little…[Read more]

  • Thanks to ya ll for the advice on replacing “Herbie” muffler. Paul, I did my build in 3 months, because the guys at work were betting on the odds if I would ever finish my MGTD build. Yes it took long hours, late, late nights, but the Classic Roadsters manual, was quite detailed. The only challenge was the wiring, but I used “Colored Marker Pens”…[Read more]
