Apparently my cache of oil is older than yours – I ain’t got no SN.   However, you should know that the electric “saw on a stick” that I recently borrowed from you, has the blade lubricated with Valvoline Racing CD oil that was specially formulated to meet all the requirements of single cylinder diesel engines (including turbocharged) in 1955.

I remember it well. I thought it was in the 50’s or 60’s.   Used it many times and I think it was Gumout. I tried hard to find it (or it’s successor) a few years ago. Failed. As I remember, a ton of black smoke when you used it. For some reason, I think it was banned or discontinued or both.

Allen, you seem to have my problem in reverse.  I have a 69 vehicle, 69 engine with a 71 transaxle.  …see I told you to be careful.

Allen, you are right to be careful here. I don’t know the answer to your question, but the clutch disc was changed about 1970. I had bought a 1969 clutch disc for my 1969 engine. Wrong. —  I have a 1971 (or later) transmission.

Kent, Just over 2 yrs ago, I installed some front disc brakes that I had bought from SoCal for a bit over $200.  I also put in a new master cylinder at the same time (nothing special).  The kit was made by AC Industries in China.  Still VW drums on rear.  Good looking kit.  Rather nicely finished.  Works great – no pressure valve. 

Anyone who does not have trouble with the rear right hand bolt, as you describe, does not really have a Holley Bug Spray.  An Allen head bolt will help.

Thanks Bill, I’ve had problems with double vision since just before last Carlisle. Gotten worse, but maybe it’s better now. The worst of it is the cost and loss of confidence. It’s a sad sad day for us old timers who adapted Triumph wire wheel adapters to fit VW’s 130mm bolt pattern.  My MiGi just got a lot less unique.  However, I’m happy for those of you who have wanted “real” British knock-off wire wheels.  (I guess.)   

If mine weren’t chromed, I’d be black.
