  • Wonderfully written and explained.  When I started, I had almost 1/4 turn of slop.  Adjusted the steering box and took most of it out, but still had too much.  Don’t forget the steering coupler!  That’s how I got most of the rest out of it.  If there is wear, tearing, or loose fasteners, it can be real sloppy, not to mention dangerous.  Less than…[Read more]

  • I used a Honda motorcycle mirror mounted to my “hinge” portion of my folding windshield.  It is mounted high and is convex and shows me the whole world behind me!  I had to fabricate a bracke out of aluminum, but it took only a few minutes.

  • You might check to see if you have a vented gas cap.  If you don’t, after a short period of running you will build a vacuum in the tank and fuel won’t feed.  After a period of time air will seep into the tank and it will restart.

  • Just a quick update.  As I mentioned in another post I have finally identified the car.  It is really not a kit at all.  In the early 80’s, members of Kosair Shrine in the Louisville and Southern Indiana area decided to build parade cars.  There were initially 20 members.  They used a basket case MGTD with a decent body to make molds and proc…[Read more]

  • The Ford engines have a little more power, and are more feadilyavailable due to being used in more vehicles.  The Chevys are closer in performance to the original MGTD (don’t know if that is a plus!)  Both seem to be enjoyed by those of us who have them.  As for headroom, you’ll have to ask someone taller than my 5’6″.

  • No comprende!  The program is where I have to go to get the photo to upload I thought.  I have successfully uploaded all of the newer photos. and when I browse, that is where I go to find the files.  I really would like to get better than I am at this.  Could you suggest where I might get some reading material?

  • Semi computer illiterate!  By the way, I have gotten the same message when I have tried to post photos, ie:  The photos must be in jpeg etc. when they already are, and are resized to meet our requirements.  This seems to happen when I try to use the Kodak program, and not when I use the Microsoft program.

  • Saw an oil in Autozone yesterday.  It was a Valvolene “racing” oil. They talked about the high ZDDP content.  It was pricey, I think $8.99 per quart, but it is the only oil that I have seen in a regular parts store.

I just made some using carpet runner available from Lowes.  I took the old carpet (just replaced) and used it as a pattern.  If your carpet won’t come out, just make a paper pattern and trace on the back and cut it out.  Cheap, looks good and a custom fit.

I can’t tell you if it will fit, but the 3 bow 53 top is a little longer.  The extra bow gives you more headroom and you need a little longer top to go over the third bow.  The only sure way to tell is to find someone with an original 53 TD and compare measurements.  Check to see if there is a British Sports Car Club in your area as a start in finding one.

Usually a problem with the grounds rather than a bad wire!

  • There is always MG Magic, they have the top bows and the hardware.

Definately a 53 3 bow top.  I was surprised to see the rear fenders molded as part of the body.  According to Brad at MG Magic, there were several small manufacturers that made from one prototype to a dozen or so production models before fading away.  Really neat car.

A real rough guess of speed.  On both of my cars the speed is almost twice the RPM, ie: 2000rpm=40mph, 2500-50mph etc.  Allow a little to keep the gendarmes happy and motor on!  I had my wife follow me in another car to verify this.  Don’t know if all kits would work this way, but it is, after all, a Volkswagen in a pretty suit.  Except for my P…[Read more]

If the top has 3 bows it may be that you have a top based on a 1953 MGTD.  The tops for the earlier models wouldn’t fit as they were all 2 bow tops.  Many of the replicas used tops that were made specifically for them. MG Magic is a good source for some of them.  The cockpit was lengthened on many of the replicas, so a “real” MG top won’t fit.

  • I don’t know the manufacturer of my seats, but they are early compact car.  They are old enough that they have never had a headrest.  I’m guessing that they might be early Pinto.  I also don’t have the seat box base, they set right on the floor.  Quite comfortable, have taken several 100-200 mile trips without butt pain.  They sit as far back as t…[Read more]

By the way everyone, my name is Dennis or Denny-Brock

Keep me informed, I’d still like to do it, but maybe a winter project?  My car is basically a copy of the 53, so the wiper motor would be in the center, not on the right.  I suppose that Moss is still the choice for the linkages etc.

I posted a few new pics of a more finished car, the one I hoped to bring to Carlisle.  Next year for sure!

Don’t be concerned, you Mom would just say “It’s just a phase that he is going through!”)
