Just had a new one made. Having tried all the usual suspects like safelite and glass providers I ended up going to a classic car shop here in Pittsburgh who had “their glass guy” make a new one based on my old split one. It didn’t seem to be a big deal.Bill (crash55)was nice enough to do a template of his Fiberfab windshield as it is still off the…[Read more]

Annie’s home!!!
With a brand new windshield! Thank you to everyone for keeping me on the straight and narrow. As you know, I spent 5 weeks working with Safelite before they gave up. Then found Fort Pitt Classic Autos here in Pittsburgh via my TDR buddy Bill (crash55). Another five weeks there discovering that Annie is not a Fiberfab as Bill let me… -

Wow, another reason that Annie is not a Fiberfab!
She seems to be one but with too many differences which are now:Shorter windshieldTD badges on Steering wheel and radiator5 gal gas tankNifty compartment under hoodPlain dashboard.Clutch cable needs to be shorterned. She doesn’t seem to fall into any of the other major manufacturers. So I… -

Thanks guys. I had been telling them that the frame had not been shorterned. Didn’t even think about the pedals being moved
I called and they had just worked it out themselves by looking at the snapped version which was looped and clamped (Duh). -

Sorry, Annie is still in the shop (4 weeks now). If she is back by then I might make it.

To add my 2 cents. I lived in Fairlawn before moving to Upper Saddle River. Had an office in Parsippany and known Lake Hopatcong real well. I’m originally from the UK but now live in Pittsburgh. When asked where my accent is from (Cockney Jock) I typically say New Jersey!

I had a close look at them and I think they are actually a 7″ light set way back in an oversized chrome housing.

It looks like the Antique and Classic version.
Opps, have I dropped myself in it about your DuchessDon’t you have “lucky” rear lights like me? -

Paul, you are a scholar Sir!
The Fiberfab was a punt on my behalf as was the additional of the word Jaguar (I saw the leaping mascot). I am a Jag man myself but have never owned a SS100.This particular replica seems an odd mixture, to my eye, of SS100 shape but “Dune buggy” bumpers and tail lights. I wish they wouldn’t do that. -

Thx Paul (and everyone else) I suppose it wouldn’t be a “hobby” car if there was nothing to do. 🙂 I have learnt that :Lexan can only be used for side and rear windows and definitely not main windshield! Funny Safelite don’t know that!I will post solution when I have one.

Thinking about this it could well be a crack due to stress and not because it was hit with a stone. I don’t remember any stone hitting it and there doesn’t seem to be any chip. So it could well fall under the “Eddie Theory”. Safelite say they went thru 4 windshields with each one cracking. On the other hand the windshield wasn’t cracked when I got…[Read more]

Hi Ed:I’ll check that out. I’m no mechanic so this is fast getting out of my level of comfort. I think the Safelite guys just didn’t want to do it hence the “Bent frame” and Lexan solution offered. Thankfully, you guys in the forum have been much more supportive 🙂 . Bill (crash55) my local MG buddy is calling around some of his friends and my…[Read more]

Apparently, Lexan comes in two types. The more expensive (obviously) is used in Race cars and for windows of construction vehicles. I will check state regs just in case.
