Maybe post a couple pics? I installed a Pertronix a couple years ago and it doesn’t sound like the same kit.

A 195/65-15 is about the same diameter as a 185/75-14: 25 inches.

Love to have Paul in the convoy but I get it: 9 hours is a lot of seat time, even in the lap of IM luxury.
I think last time Bill and I were a little late for lunch (accident on 301?) and the group dawdled a bit at the table. I’m all for dawdling but the hour or 90 minute delay there cost us an additional 2 hours in traffic because of the usual r…[Read more]

There are a few MG snobs but I’ve seldom run into them. The Porsche snobs are a little thicker on the ground, in my estimation. It is true, though, that some people can’t hide their disappointment when told they’re looking at an ’80s mail-order car and not a 1950s survivor. And others are just a little bit snobby. Or they like to show off their…[Read more]

That’s it. I got one at a junk yard a few years ago for $5 or $7. Bit of a hunt, but they’re there.
The offset is good as well.

More tin is better. You can seal the top of the motor from the bottom/exhaust with a little ingenuity. I think Jack’s car has rubber flaps.
Bridget has small gaps at the sides but ran cool enough (according to my Gene Berg dipstick thermo-warning device) no matter what. And still does, according to the guy what bought it from me two years ago…

Nice work and a great lesson to everyone: First, look carefully at everything from every angle, THEN decide the most efficient way to fix!
Would that I followed my own advice more often.

Sorry to hear of your trouble, Jack.
I add my endorsement to the idea of not removing the thermostat and air vanes. Thing to do with those is tinker with them until they work right.
I doubt that your carb is what made your temp go up. Unless the carb was leaning you out at 70 mph, yout temp went up because of an air flow issue. Look for…[Read more]

edward ericson replied to the topic Battery Cable Length in the forum VW Based Kits 9 years, 2 months ago
I like the battery up front for ballast. My car does not have any sand or rocks up front to add weight, but the battery weighs 40 or 50 pounds and sits just behind the front wheels, so I figure that helps keep the nose planted when I get too enthusiastic going up the on ramp. I’d use one of the mini batteries if mine was located aft of the car’s…[Read more]
