mine had the steel chassis.  I gave all my parts info to the new owner. It was VW brakes. the caliper has the P/N make on it . measured the pads to get the correct ones.  Disc front , drum rear. it was a 1986. Greg Press might be able to help you.

Bill picked up the car and trailered it back to Glens Falls NY. Talked to his mechanic and the rear shocks were changed. Needed to know what front shocks to get but I couldn’t help him with the front shock P/N.
Bought a house in the Palm Beach area in May and moved at the end of July.

Only 10 hours left on my EBAY sale of my LR. Lots of watcher’s but still no bids. Could be a disappointing end for someone not getting the car because they waited too long. Did get a note from the prior owner because he was happy that the car was still in such good shape. Runs like a champ.

I added another ground cable to the battery terminal. Now the battery has 2 ground wires. Attach the new ground cable to a bolt that will ground to the frame. Do not use the same bolt as the original ground.

Mary, Mine would act like a dead battery but if I put a charger on it or jumped it from another car it would start fine. Usually would start fine until it sat for a while. Mine battery tested as good. I cleaned the terminals and it help but randomly it turned over real slow. I added a second ground and that solved the problem. Never hurts to have a second ground as you never know when a ground will be lost.

Mary, I would check the ground cable. I had the same problem. I put a second ground cable on and it starts much better.

Welcome Mary,  The London Roadster from the factory had a special built VW motor that had much more HP than a stock VW. Welcome to the group.

Two things that are unique to the London Roadster is the emblem by the antenna and the side gas fill on the driver’s side. Most of the London Roadster owners here have steel chassis , not the VW pan. Mine is also a 1986.

Tires generally rot from the inside out. Old tires can have great tread but may not be safe. Usual indicator most people use is if the sidewall is cracking, if they don’t know about the tire code. Generally I like to change them out at 5 years. These cars don’t have the modern safety equipment so having a tire problem at speed could be really bad. Just Sayn’

Is there any chance of getting the P/n for the rear shocks . I would like to get new ones on my LR before I sell it.

My LR is also factory built and I think the guy who converted from a generator to an alternator added an extra light. Red light on mine is high/low beam and blue is alternator. Blue stays on until rpm’s increases or will shut off after a few minutes. Alternator will not charge battery until light goes off, amp gauge verifies that.

My LR dashboard configuration from Left to Right.

Gas gauge / speedometer / tach  / amp gauge / interior Light / Oil pressure

between the speed and tach are some lights

Top light (red) high low beam

    below (blue) Alternator exciter light

below that 2 (green)  turn signal indicators

I’ll put a picture of the dash in my gallery if it is not already there.

I heard the same thing about the light completing the circuit , mine will not charge the battery until the light goes out and I am using an alternator.

I read somewhere that the charging system runs thru a light on the dash. The London Roadster has a blue light. The blue light comes on when you start your car but does’t start charging the battery until the light goes out. That’s the way mine works. I use an alternator.
