Easiest thing to do is take them to a front end shop. They can press the old ones out and the new ones in in short order. Or if you know someone with a press you can do it yourself. Be careful.

Tom Colello replied to the topic new allison in the forum VW Based Kits 12 years, 9 months ago
The gas tank is built in under the deck in the front compartment. Filler neck is the radiator cap. Be careful when filling as auto shut off doesn’t always work and you’ll spill gas all over your grill and front end if you’re not careful.
Post some pics when you get the car. There is one other on this site besides me with Allison’s.

Since you have access to a machine shop why not make a thin aluminum disc the size of the recess with the same texture as you emblem.

Tom Colello replied to the topic Carlisle Registration Sale in the forum Clubs and Show 13 years ago
We’d love to do it but that’s a heck of a haul from south Louisiana. Sounds like a lot of fun. We’re gonna hook up with a local British Car Club down here. They are mostly later model MGB’s and such but said they’d welcome a TD owner even if it is a replica. Gonna attend their January meeting and see how warm the reception is.

Got mine last Friday. Ordered on the 12th received on the 19th. Very pleased with the product. Thanks again Ed for putting this together.

Tom Colello replied to the topic Steering Wheel Reversed in the forum VW Based Kits 13 years ago
Great idea. A belly reversal would give you front clearence and at the same time provide a lumbar support. Now why didn’t I think of that!
The steering wheel reversal is a great idea. Didn’t Model A’s have a wheel that looked like that? -

the Peel and Seal from Home Depot and Lowe’s is about .050 thick. Don’t know how much sound proofing it will do but it’s bound to help. It will stop vibration however which is the source for a lot of unwanted noises on metal parts.

If you’re wondering if he’s the real Santa or a replica just check under his hood or bonnett as they say in jolly old England.
Merry Christmas to all of you and a wish for a happy and healthy New Year.
Keep a prayer in your hearts for our troops that they have a safe and quiet holiday season and return safely to their loved ones. -

On average about how long did it take to get your calendar once ordered? Just curious as to when to start looking. Placed my order on the 12th.

I know what you mean about head scratching. If you’ve ever built something, anything, you’ve done your share. I’ve scratched my head so much over the years that I hardly have any hair left in that spot.

Tom Colello replied to the topic Wire Rims in the forum VW Based Kits 13 years ago
I’ve got wire knock offs on Winston now with a VW 4 bolt pattern but they came with the car from Allison when it was new back in 1981 and I don’t know who the company got them from. I’ll see if I can post a pic of the adapter that bolts to the VW drum. Sure would like to find a set for a reasonable price.

It’s made for roofing systems and rain gutters. I don’t have it on any overhead surfaces. I used it on the floor of the pan and on the rear package tray area behind the back seat. Verdict is still out on how long it lasts or how the heat affects it as I just put it down about 6 months ago. It’s gonna be under carpet. I will say once you put it…[Read more]
