Larry Murphy replied to the topic nice looking BCW on the bay in the forum General Discussion 16 years ago
I don’t think the ad identifies the brand kit ,but it’s a BCW, the first black one I have seen. I think the wheels with round holes are from a Toyota. It’s a good looking car!

Larry Murphy replied to the topic shifter bushing help in the forum General Discussion 16 years ago
Ed, I’m trying to get my foggy memory to clear up , but what I could see of my bracket did not look like your picture.I don’t think my bracket was bolted in because where it was in the tunnel, it would have been very hard if not impossible to get to the bolts. It was not shaped like yours but was at a right angle to the shifter tube.I’m pretty…[Read more]

Rollie, Be very careful when cutting the spout! NO FLAME OR SPARKS.. It would be safer if you filled it with water before you start .

Larry Murphy replied to the topic Replacement Fuel tanks in the forum General Discussion 16 years ago
Rollie, Look in Edsnova picture gallery. There is a picture of his fuel tank which shows a short , apparently welded on filler spout with a vent hose . Would this setup work for you?

Larry Murphy replied to the topic Replacement Fuel tanks in the forum General Discussion 16 years ago
John, Thanks for catching me in a MAJOR goof up. I was thinking that if the hose was ok for coolant ,that it would be ok for gas too.Actually I was referring to using the hose to connect two metal pieces of pipe together to make up a short straight filler tube with the two pipes making up the entire length of the tube but I did not make that c…[Read more]

Rollie, If you want to replace the tank, why not get a new VW tank . With the tank never having had gas in it ,it would be easy to weld any type spout you needed.I found new tanks for about $125 on line.At least you would not have the hassle of finding and calibrating a guage. Is your spout welded to the tank ? If it is ,could you cut it off and…[Read more]

Larry Murphy replied to the topic Outside Door Handles in the forum TD Replicas 16 years ago
Dave, If your car is a Classic Roadster Duchess, I think it uses original MGTD latches. The handles are available from Moss Motors $77.95 per pair. Click on the links page on the left side of this site.

Larry Murphy replied to the topic Clutch wont disengage – Ford in the forum Chevy/Ford Kits 16 years ago
Have someone work the clutch pedal while you look at the clutch fork from underneath the car.See if the fork moves back and forth as the pedal is depressed. It may be that the cable has stretched and is not moving the fork enough to disengage. You mentioned that the car had set longer, could the disc be stuck to the flywheel because of sometype…[Read more]

Larry Murphy replied to the topic BCW Dash Project in the forum Chevy/Ford Kits 16 years ago
To continue on the steering wheel project, I did the same modification to a 74 Datson wheel a while back. It was a 15” wheel and really felt good as far as size. You can see it on the white car in my gallery.

Larry Murphy replied to the topic BCW Dash Project in the forum Chevy/Ford Kits 16 years ago
Here is a drawing of the steering wheel . Hope this helps.
I would not try this with a new wheel, too expensive to risk.

Paul, I knew that question was going to come up, just didn’t know when.
It was on my 70 CHEV truck when I bought the truck six years ago.It was about four inch dish, too high so I replaced it with a two inch dish that I already had. The Grant wheel that was on the BCW when I got it was too in my face as well since the horn wiring was in the…[Read more] -

Thanks for all the nice comments. The wood came from a home improvement store. 2 x 4 feet so I had enough for two in case I goofed up the first time. It’s plywood with one good side, not expensive at all.The edges were a challange as I had not used a router before. The trim on the top edge is ”chrome” fender welt. The glove box door trim is…[Read more]

Larry Murphy replied to the topic Car only runs while cranking Ignition in the forum Chevy/Ford Kits 16 years ago
Geoff, If my memory is correct, when the switch is in the start position the ballast [resistor] is bypassed and you get a full 12 volts to the coil to start the engine. when the switch is returned to the on [run] position the current goes thru the resistor. The problem could be a bad switch , bad resistor, bad connection or possibly something h…[Read more]

Larry Murphy replied to the topic Vw parts link in the forum General Discussion 16 years ago
Ed, While new seals may not be absolutely necessary, it just makes sense to replace them while the suspensoin is dessasembled. You don’t want grease oozing out or dirt getting in and the cost is reasonable. Also check the tie rod ends and other parts for wear as well.

Larry Murphy replied to the topic fold down windscreen in the forum TD Replicas 16 years ago
Check out Moss Motors . Their TD site shows all the parts that make up the folding windshield but if I am seeing the page correctly , some of the parts are no longer available. Occasionally one shows up on the web used, but if you can find one ,the cowel must be reshaped removing the flat shaped area that the Duchess windshield frame bolts to.…[Read more]

Larry Murphy replied to the topic wireing schematics in the forum VW Based Kits 16 years ago
Buddy, I read somewhere that some kits used all black wire and labeled each wire. Before you disconnect anything you should do the same and you may want to draw diagrams and make pictures also. A little extra time spent now will save much time and trouble when you put it back together.Pay close attention to the ground wires as poor grounds ar…[Read more]

Hi and welcome to the forum. The Classic Roadsters replica is one of the more desirable kits. My Chevette based car uses the Chevette wiring harness with some additions/modifications. Hey Gang, About 14 years ago when my grand daughter was 3 years old ,I was taking her for a Sunday afternoon ride wnen she leaned forward , grabbed the door handle and pulled it.. It was a cool day and I had the side curtains in place and that kept the door from flying open. It happened so quick that I had no chance to respond. I see these…[Read more]
