  •  Ed Fix the shifter first. The e-brake stuff will be in the way when installing the bushing. Also check the coupling that connects the shifter tube to the shaft at the front of the transaxle.

Ed, This is a neat idea, More German engineering. It’s very simple but would be effective. It doesn’t look too bad either. The home improvement stores sell metal strips that would be good for this purpose. Guess I’ll try to make my own.

  •  Ed, I can see from the pictures in your gallery that your car has individual seat bottoms. The plate to access the shifter coupling is under the carpet between the seats. The shifter tube  connecting the transaxle to the shift lever passes thru a support in the tunnel. The support has a plastic bushing that wears out and then allows the shifter tu…[Read more]

Ed, Thanks for sharing your story and pictures. I’ll be making the same corrections to my car just as soon as I can .I’m glad that you got the problem solved. Now that you know what you are doing the other side will be much easier and since you paved the way it will be easier for the rest of us.

  •   My BCW door latches are latching in the hook like Ed ‘s car. Perhaps the BCW factory assemblers thought the latches were designed that way . When I got my car the locks and striker plates were already attached but the doors were not installed to the body. When I mounted the doors ,the right side lined up perfectly, latching in the hook. I than…[Read more]

  •  Don, You are correct, no connection from the positive cable to ground.Regardless of the location of the battery the positive cable runs to the starter,it’s just longer and it should be well insulated and secured to protect from damage.
The ground cable from the battery should have a tight bare metal connection to the pan and there should also b…[Read more]

  •   Don, The actual color of the battery cables does not matter. Some one may have used a red cable instead of a black one. Look at the battery and attach the cables with the -terminal connected to the ground and the + terminal connected  to the starter.I think this is the one you refer to as going into the car. The terminals on the battery are a…[Read more]

Wow ! Talk about a  cruise , you took what I call a trip. Glad you could get out and enjoy yourselves.
     About your idle problem,
At what rpm does it stop running?  You mentioned playing with the throttle, are you talking about the idle speed adjustment? Does it seem to run rich before it actually stops? Is the idle adjustment screw cont…[Read more]

  •  Don, The pedal arrangement you refer to is like a FiberFab replica I saw a few years ago. Based on that info I would guess that your car is a FiberFab or Classic Motor Carriage . Other kits may have used this set up but I do not know of any others for sure. When you post some pictures we can probably tell for sure.  Hope this helps.

  •  WOW!!! With a start like you have had , things can only get better.I guess it goes without saying ,but you need to drain the engine and put in fresh oil before it is started again. Keep us posted as to how it turns out.We will all hope for the best.

  •  May be just a thought but it is a good one. I have used vinyl wrapped around rubber tubing when I needed the piping to be stiff but the rope would allow it to be more flexable to fit around sharpe corners. I also used staples instead of glue since they are hidden when the piping is installed. Good idea Dan, thanks for sharing it with us.

  •  Greg, I’m  glad someone is looking into this problem and finding a fix. The fact that our doors open from the front makes it VERY important that they stay closed. My London Roadster has very light weight striker plates but at least they do have a second latching point. I like the look of the original MG latches on my BCW, but am amazed that M…[Read more]

  •  Ed, You are correct, that wheel does indeed look TD ish. I’ve always admired them on the original MGs. If the steering wheel is as low on the VW based BCWs as it is on the Chevette based ones I can understand why you need to raise it . I’m already wondering why I didn’t raise mine when I reworked the dash but hindsite is always clearer.I like…[Read more]

  •  Hi Don, Welcome to the forum.
I’m in NC so I cannot give you Pa . requirements but I believe some owners just use the VW title for their replicas. This may be what the previous owner of your car did and you may be able to do that as well. However if Pa. requires an inspection before they will register a vehicle from another state you may run i…[Read more]

  •  Dan, Thanks for your reply. It’s amazing how much better you can see something once you know what it is.I just couldn’t make it out.
Ringo, I went by the glass shop and they gave me a short piece that was leftover from a previous job. I peeled the rubber off one side so it would not be so thick and it looks like it will work .
     Thanks again to…[Read more]

  •  James, Thanks for the suggestion and the source. I have used this product with good results but did not know it was available in 1/8 ”.The great thing about this site is that you can get a lot of good ideas that would take forever to think of by yourself.

  •  Ringo, Thanks for the sugestions. Both seem like workable solutions. There is a small local auto/building glass shop here that just might have some of the window trim left from a auto window replacement.I’ll check them out.I had not thought of this but it just may solve the problem.

  •  Hi and welcome to the forum. Glad to hear of another BCW in our group..On my Chevette engine BCW , the vin is on the driver side door jam. This is a metalic looking sticker from  the state in which the car was first titled and I assume that the state actually assigned the vin #.I believe these cars were delivered with a statement of orgin from th…[Read more]

I better hush with my foolish ideas, don’t want to have any part of a divorce. As much as I enjoy these cars they are not worth fighting over.At least that’s what Mark [Pink MG] told m…[Read more]

  •  Geoff, It appears that the kit is made up of leftover parts , some of them from a red kit and some from a green one. I checked the prices on a recent MG MAGIC price list and came up with $3875. just for the body panels ,not counting the tub ,splash pan and rear cover, which is no longer available.  You could buy itfor $1600 , keep what you want a…[Read more]
