Larry Murphy replied to the topic Starter replacement fun in the forum Chevy/Ford Kits 12 years, 8 months ago
Dan, I removed my hood side panel last year to replace the ign. module and was amazed at how easy it was to get to all the stuff on that side of the engine with the panel off. I gave some thought to making it easier by using twist lock fasteners to replace the bolts, but then I reasoned that since I used new bolts and nuts, it would be easier to…[Read more]

When I got my BCW, thedoors were off the car . I attached them with bolts and nuts that were provided by the previous owner. I did not see any other way to do it.

It is indeed a nice car and the front engined Classic Roadsters are pretty rare too. In the thread on wire wheels,it appears that they would cost about $2000. That gets the price down to a ”somewhat reasonable” figure if the car is as nice as the pictures show it to be. Besides ,the asking price is usually more than what it would take to…[Read more]

I checked the fuel lines on my ”factory built ”BCW with the Chevette engine. The vent line runs up the left side of the chassis paralall to the fuel line to a point near the top left side of the radiator. It must have connected to the emmissions system but all the smog stuff had been removed before I got the car.It just sits there beside the r…[Read more]

My Chevette based BCW has a two barrel progressive linkage carb. About 24 is the best I’ve got . I don’t really drive for the best milage and do a lot of gearing down just having fun!!!It has a 4 speed manual trans.

Rocky, You’re looking good!!!! Please accept my apologies for suggesting you should have found another VW pan. You’ve actually got a new one ,one that you built yourself. Can’t wait to see it when you are done.

Welcome Randy. Glad to have you on the forum. You have a great MGTD replica. Look in DavidP ‘s photo gallery for a car that closely resembles yours.Same wheels and hub caps ,which I have not seen anywhere else.He is in Africa and his car is right hand drive.I had not been able to figure out what manufacturer produced it but it just may be an…[Read more]

Larry Murphy replied to the topic Chevy/Ford vs VW in the forum General Discussion 12 years, 10 months ago
MGLR, The VW in my LR is a dual port engine with a progressive two barrell carb and monza exhaust. It is at least as good performance wise as the Chevette based BCW but it’s not a fair comparison since the BCW is heavier . The BCW has a well designed chassis made of rectangular steel with the firewall and most of the floor made of 1/8 plate.

Roy, Here’s my perspective. The MGTD is a front engined car so the front engined replicas are more like the originals in that respect, However, the FiberFab/CMC cars have wider fenders to accomodate the wider wheels that were provided by the kit manufacturer which takes away from the authenticity.BCW and Classic Roadster have the same size…[Read more]

John, My guess is that LR used the same MiGi bodies on the VW pans as did on the custom chassis.I can’t explain why some have the hump and some do not except it is not unusual to see slight variations from year to year. My VW based LR has the short grille but it appears slightly different from yours. If I am correct, the front edge of your hood…[Read more]

John, Glad you solved your problem. If you search the forum, you will find that there are many opinions as whether or not weight should be added. One school says to remove leaves from the VW type suspension and the other says add weight . I suppose there are pros and cons to either method.so I’ll not even to give my opinion.I once took a trip in…[Read more]

Greg, MGLondonRoadster has the same front end. He had a VW tow bar modified at a local welding shop to fit this type suspension. It took him a couple of trips to the shop to get it to fit but he said it worked out in the end.
I think another member welded brackets to the car’s suspension to attach the VW tow bar . I don’t know if the tow bar en…[Read more] -

Larry Murphy replied to the topic A picture, finally in the forum General Discussion 12 years, 11 months ago
John, You got it right. There is a stud on the medallion that fits thru a hole in the hubcap. The stud has a hole thru it cross ways near the end. A cotter key goes thru the hole and flat washers, possibly plastic or felt ,take up the extra length of the stud to insure a snug fit.

Larry Murphy replied to the topic Need New Radiator Cap in the forum General Discussion 12 years, 11 months ago
Are you saying that you actually fill the radiator thru the top of the grill shell? Every front engine replica that I have seen fills under the hood as the radiators all sit back several inches behind the grille. You may have a MGTD radiator and if you do ,the Moss cap may fit it.

Larry Murphy replied to the topic A picture, finally in the forum General Discussion 12 years, 11 months ago
John, The short answer is no. I saw somewhere that you can weld bolts to the VW wheels which if positioned correctly, will hold the MG hubcap in place. The center part of the VW wheel will still cause the hubcap to stick out farther than it does on the MG wheel as the cap sits on top of the bumps on the VW wheel instead of fitting over them.…[Read more]

Larry Murphy replied to the topic Need New Radiator Cap in the forum General Discussion 12 years, 11 months ago
MGLR, You will need to use a cap that is designed for the particular radiator that is on the car. If my memory is correct, the Chevrolets with the 283 engine use a 7 and 1/2 lb cap.I do not think that the TD cap from Moss will fit.

It was sunny and 70 here in Reidsville too. I took the BCW over to the land of Eden ( the long way). Logged about 35 miles in one hour of pure pleasure. Except for last Monday,Tuesday and Wednesday, it’s been a mild winter here. I’m not complaining about it either.
