  •  My London Roadster has a flat wheel. The turnsignal lever is cut off a near the steering column. A piece of chrome pipe which is slightly flattened on one end slips over the shortened lever and is held in place by a very small screw that runs thru a hole in the pipe and the lever. It’s finished of with a small knob on the end of the pipe.

A three carb setup should also be fitted with a progressive linkage so that only the center carb is actuated at less than half throttle somewhat like the three two barrel system of the late 50’s.Please post pictures when you get it all worked out.WinkLOL

  •  Ed , Check Bill Collins’ photo gallery . His car had a very unique exhaust system.

  •  Bill, The thread  about hubcaps was about fitting ”original” MG medalions to the VW hubcap. I think that British Coach Works was the only kit manufacturer to provide the larger ”BCW” emblem that covered the center part of the cap.
I still have not figured out how BCW adapted the VW wheels to their Chevette based cars. The VW wheels on my ca…[Read more]

Hi John and welcome to the gang. I live in Reidsville NC and have owned a London Roadster since 1994. It’s been a dependable and fun toy . I owned two of them for a couple of years  but sold one to a friend who  lives a couple miles from me when I got  a chance to get a Chevette based British Coach Works in 2009.

  •  Montie, I’m with Ray10. Looks great and definitely one of a kind. Best of all, you made it yourself from something that was already special to begin with. There are somethings that money can’t buy.

  •  Mark,  Good looking TD. I really like the wheels with the blue color. Looking forward to more pictures and details. Great progress.

  •  Paul, Sorry ,I was asleep at the wheel . Did not intend to let this slip by. Thanks again for all you do to keep the forum running smothly. Thanks to those who did donate, and yes it’s good to recognise them.

  •  Paul, I know you are right!! When I talked to him on the phone to set up the apointment, he told me that the car had to be ”operational” for the inspection so I got everything working expecting a ”mechanic type” person to show up,put on coveralls and perform a real inspection of the car.
When he arrived ,a day early, he was driving what l…[Read more]

  •  Roy, Congratulations on ”doing things right”You won’t regret it especially if you are envolved in an accident or ever decide to sell it.Each state has their own rules for these cars and each inspector has his own interpretation of the same rules. When I got my BCW,it had a New Jersey title as a 1998 ,or was it 2004 Recon.Any way when the…[Read more]

  •  Hi Foghorn,  Welcome to the forum. That is indeed a nice start!!!You’ll enjoy putting the finishing touches on it. If a body part has to be replaced, the apron would probably be on of the easier parts to find.I see it is still on the car, You could probably repair it if you cannot find one.

  • Larry Murphy replied to the topic windshield in the forum VW Based Kits 13 years, 8 months ago

Mystic, I checked my London Roadster’s windshield and the measurments are the same as yours. Some kits have taller windshields to comply with the minimum size requirements of some states, but every TD replica I know about has a curve at the bottom .I have never seen one that is flat accross the bottom of the windshield. Is it possible that your…[Read more]

  •  You are correct in saying that the shock should be in the center of it’s travel .However ,since the shock has NO ability to support weight, installing the correct length shock WILL NOT raise the height of the car.

  • Remove a shock absorber from the car  and you will then see that it has no ability to support the vehicle. If you extend it to it’s maxium length, it will stay in that position.  If you compress it  to the shortest length ,it will stay in that position. If you put it in the center of it’s travel, it will stay there as well . It will also stay in an…[Read more]

  • mrlmd, Adding longer shocks will not raise the ride height at all.If you install shocks that are too long ,they will bottom out before the suspension reaches it’s lowest point of travel. That is not a workable solution.Only shocks with springs attached or air shocks will raise the ride height.Regular shocks do not support any weight. They only…[Read more]

  •  Roy, One other thing to remember,, Remove the same number of leaves from both the upper and lower tube. This will allow the suspension to still function as it was originally designed. If you remove leaves from only one tube, the front would indeed come down but it would have one stiff spring and one softer one. Also ,though it may necessitate…[Read more]

  •  Buzz, I believe your car is a FiberFab. Royal’s is a MIGI. The MIGI’s body is  farther to the rear of the VW pan ,whereas the FiberFabs sit closer to the front of the pan .That’s why the steering box is easier to see on his car. My London Roadster, which usee a Daytona MiGi body sits in the same position. That’s also why the grille is shorter th…[Read more]

  •  Look in Rockyx’s ”front suspension apart” thread . There are pictures of his disassembled front end. You can see the leaves sticking out of each end of the beam and also the sleeve part of the arms and how far they slide into the beam. It looks to me that they MIGHT be removeable from one side but I wonder if they would slide back into the…[Read more]

  •  Roy, Welcome aboard. Your pictutes are loading. They are all going to your photo gallery. That’s a nice MiGi. Hang with us and someone here will help you get it lower.

  •  Glad to have you on the forum. Try E-bay and Craigslist.Hopefully some one here knows of one in the general area.If you find one that’s too far away for you to go look at, a member of the forum who is closer to it may be able to check it out for you.Try not to depend completely on the information in an ad . Some sellers are ”less than tr…[Read more]
