  • In this case everyone here is probably smarter than me since I just started learning about VW’s a couple months ago.

That fuel shut-off solenoid is what I was trying to remember, had read about it somewhere. Fairly sure I don’t have it. This Weber does have plugged off vacuum port(s). I think it says DFAV on it, not easy to read the “F”, could be…

  • Interesting idea, Greg.

  • With the cuts for the cables being to the top (or bottom of container) that should vent all hydrogen gas.

I think battery boxes do have some kind of venting, some way or another, just wouldn’t be safe otherwise.
I got a picture of it today because I knew these kit cars have differences and only some people would have the same configuration as mine…

  • Yep, I prefer regular spark plugs. Thought these were them. I use NGK in my motorcycle.

You read me wrong there (a lot to read!). Was just saying I think the old dirty air filter probably richened it up a bit. If anything I’ll need to be sure new air filter didn’t cause it to go too lean now, hence another possibility for the pinging.
  • Maybe someone will get that before the Carlisle show! She’s a beauty.

  • Paul, I’m sure some people were wondering why I was in the battery section of Walmart putting the container on top of a battery there. Especially since it would be too shallow to fit the whole battery!

I don’t think a battery box would fit without pulling the carpet out. Mine is a snug fit just for the battery alone. Maybe everyone didn’t carpet…

  • Okay, yeah, I won’t go cutting vent holes just yet if the temperature pans out to be good.

PO said he hadn’t done anything to the engine when he gave me a book he had, it’s about performance upgrades for the VW engines. So I can only guess it just has the dual port intakes and (single) Weber, no way I would know of more than that. He only suggested…[Read more]

Although I like that change to big MPH, and color-coding some specific speeds, I just wonder if it might take away from the replication of a genuine MG TD.

Of course, I know many (most?) of these cars lack an authentic-looking dash in the first place. So maybe nothing wrong with some customization (or customisation).
    😀
Oh… meant to say, my Vintage…

  • Old message thread, I know, but I used “search” and found this because I don’t have any venting at the spare wheel/engine cover. Although I discovered by accident, while washing the car, that gaps exist between the vertical back side when the cover is closed. There’s a slight curvature to the main body of the car so the gaps vary from almost…[Read more]

I added another ground cable to the battery terminal. Now the battery has 2 ground wires
My negative terminal cable has an additional small gauge wire with it, but don’t know where it goes. I was thinking it probably goes to fuse panel under the dash. I’ve noticed the power indicator light in the dash tends to brighten after I…

Did the same as Kall, using maps.google.com, and found it to be very close. Odometer was 5.75 miles and maps said 5.8, so mine is also reading miles not kilometers even though KPH numbers are big and MPH are small. I thought it had to be kilometers until doing this.

I can’t see the speed with steering wheel blocking it so I found out I could watch…

  • Sure does have a custom look alright. Thanks for the picture!

No coil for distributor… guessing that means electronic ignition (edit: nevermind, uneducated guess. Or expecting a different kind of coil for EI. Nothing I know about myself!).
Heat risers not connected, and I don’t understand what the pair of hoses are for. Seem to go from #2 and #4…

Likewise, same speedo. Hadn’t thought of the odometer being kilometers! Just expected it to be miles even though the emphasis is on the large KPH numbers. Wow, I can’t believe I didn’t think of this before.

I know distances around here very well so it will be obvious next time I’m out on the road. Gee, if it really is KM that means the current…

  • Hiya Mary, good to have you here.

Confusing me by saying “Porsche”, I’m new to these replica cars and Volkswagen so I could only guess you might have meant the VW Type 1 engine designed by Porsche(?). Haven’t heard of anything other than that and Chevy or Ford forward engines. A whole lot I don’t know still, too.
Fantastic that you have the London…

  • Just now seen your question, missed until now.

It’s a mechanical pump, looks like a couple very short cans of different diameter one atop the other, old brass color.

Posting back here with a picture of new and old hose to show what I mean about the obvious difference in diameters. I guess it’s very possible a larger ID was used, for whatever reason.…

    2 words, car cover. 🙂

Dust or not, that paint looks really good to me. Nice color too.

If you ever do get MG wheels I’ll buy your VW wheels if you include the MG hub caps and if price is low enough for me (I’m cheap). Although I only see a pair of those hub caps in your pictures. I need to do something like that anyway.
  • Memories… from yesterday. 😀

I liked the dark orange Thing that had rust under a clear coat, I’m guessing. Was next to the wildly painted Thing in your pictures.
I saw 3 people driving on the freeway in a Thing without the top, same as a dark brown or maroon one that was there. I noticed the guy in the back was leaning forward and the one at the…

  • Well that explains why I didn’t see any. I was there in the afternoon, hour later than I expected because I forgot about the time zone change. Didn’t drive mine because of trouble with the gas leaking from tank outlet and the possibility of rain… plus I don’t know yet if I can drive it comfortably enough 300 miles in one day.

    Since I needed…
