  • Makes more sense to me now, bulb only and no wires involved (other than filaments).

What Roy said would be right, I believe, so that when you test just the pair of contacts they aren’t actually isolated to themselves. The bulb base is their mutual ground and completes the circuit.
Imagine each filament support wire going to a contact and other side…

  • Not sure but I would check the brake pedal switch to find out if it’s stuck on.

  • As requested. Standing up instead of laying down.
Welcome to the both of you, car and new owner!

  • In regards to wires for the lights, mine doesn’t have braces either and one side in front detached from the underside of the fender where they were obviously glued on, as well as undercoating the builder put on it. I’m going to use a weatherproof glue.

I’ve driven the car up to 75 MPH very briefly and didn’t seem like anything was shaking apart,…

  • And a welcome from a month old forum member!

When reading that you were getting a Fiberfab in Wisconsin I didn’t think much about what I had read elsewhere about Fiberfab being bought by Classic Motor Coaches back in 1982(?), then I saw what newkitman said regarding incomplete kits so thought I would mention that consumers had a lawsuit against the…

  • Got my car about a month after ricrx7 so missed this intro message but had already seen the “registry” map showing a bunch of pins marking central Florida. Via private message I found out my childhood home was merely 1 1/2 miles away, but almost half century apart!

Satellite Beach before that, and the TV show I Dream of Jeannie made for a strange…

What I would do is get the headlight to where it can be aimed right, nothing able to shake loose, and call it done. Unless you’ve been considering making it all look close to factory new again, which you had said wasn’t important before.

    😀

  • Seem to remember that commercial, even though I was only 13 years old. Splashing into water is very memorable and the guy in it afterward floating there. Interesting that he chose to do that himself, I would too, or want to be the stunt man.

I was thinking the bolts are a kind of catch-22, would need the gas tank removed to get at them, and need…

So that’s what the “tunnel” is! Thought it was just an area under there like most rear wheel drive cars for the drive shaft.

Talked to my dad’s neighbor’s kid about their 1970 VW Beetle, which I didn’t know about until they asked what my MGTDr is. That VW was garaged for years with engine removed and I guess since he’s getting to be of…

Be quadruply sure it stays latched closed real good. Will never forget the old family wagon when I first started driving, had minor front end damage less than yours. Thought it was okay, and whoosh! Luckily just around 35 MPH after leaving the house.
  • The replacement outlet elbow has a flare and I can’t get the old braided hose to seal. In fact, it has small internal cracks I found after I cut the end off to try and start fresh.
I like the idea of the shut-off. I was already considering adding inline filter outside the tank because I was thinking I need a filter there to go along with the one at…

Going very well there, you should be able to tweak the hood to fit, just don’t mess up your new parts!

    Interesting.

I had been reading some about Fiberfab while getting my car and one of the things that worried me was how Classic Motor Carriages had ‘bought Fiberfab but used their own molds’ according to Wikipedia.
That was 1983 and the kit for mine was acquired during 1982-1984, and all I know it the title only says Fiberfab with the date March…

Oh I see, reread what you were saying before. I get it now. I’m such a lone wolf I think everyone else is in some sort of club! LOL
At the very least I would love to catch a glimpse of a caravan of these cars traveling to the show. I see car show-bound cars every now and then going either north…

Yep, Paul, did that Saturday morning. Set timing advance for 32 degrees at or above 3000 RPM, really helped. Got to its first (for me) car show that day, tough competition so no prize/award this round. Not thinking about getting awards at all. Not yet anyhow!

I was lucky to get a tow bar for the car from seller, along with everything else. Just got…

Thanks John, makes sense, so like a VW battery placement I’ve heard– not having ever owned or known much of anything about those old Beetles.

This was one of 4 or 5 I was watching at ebay and craigslist before deciding on mine, but there was another red LR with white seats, I believe, at Marietta GA too that I’m not finding now. That one was only $5500 as I recall.

This car says $7950 in the craigslist ad. Originally was $9500, then $8950 (wups, edit after rechecking). It’s a shame these…

  • That’s a great item. I’m thinking it could be spring hinged so it could open, preferably inward but not likely possible being an external plate. Just add a box mounted behind the dash.

At the very least it could be the front of a pull-out drawer.
