Bumping this thread for awareness.
I’m planning out this year’s Carlisle outing, Thursday May 9- Sunday morning May 12. Hotel HQ is again the Courtyard Marriott in Camp Hill; the room deal is at this link. (https://www.marriott.com/event-reservations/reservation-link.mi?id=1702482498713&key=GRP&app=resvlink)
Pretty sure the Saturday dinner will…[Read more]

Book 1 to buy or borrow: “How The Keep Your Volkswagen Alive: a Manual of Step-by-Step Procedures for the Compleat Idiot”
You will find many answers in there, the most important one being “don’t panic.”
Most old Bug engines came equipped with a 1-barrel Brosol or Solex carb. Cleanout and new gaskets are typically all they need but if you’ve got…[Read more]

If I were in your shoes I’d check out the 2.3 forums like this one: https://www.ranger-forums.com/2-3l-2-5l-i4-tech-31/
They can help you troubleshoot at least as well as we can.
An engine swap seems like a radical step for someone to be contemplating not knowing basics like “what could fit?”
It’s a kit car: Anything can be made to fit. You…[Read more]

You could run it with a 34PICT3 on a stock manifold but you’d probably do better to tune the Delorto, unless it’s icing up.
What Dell do you have? What idle jets are in it?
What is your current overall mileage? I get about 25-26mpg overall with my 120-hp 1914 in a 1500 lb Spyder replica. Your engine should be giving you something similar—but o…[Read more]

Looks like a nice example, Stephen. Good luck with the sale. It might help if you suggested a price.

On mine I had to pull the shift rod out through the front of the tunnel.
If the trouble is only the cable tubes for the brakes and such, the way forward is to use a pry bar to bend them away from the cup.

Welcome to the group, Barbara! Dale Schumacher refurbished one of these many years ago and he’s nearby. His friend Rick did one about four years ago and he’s also in NoVA. Many of us meet at the Carlisle Import and Performance Nationals in May, about 2 hours north of you. You could meet other TDr owners there and learn about the ins and outs.
No…[Read more]

edward ericson replied to the topic Abarth Exhaust? in the forum General Discussion 1 year, 4 months ago
Not sure what an Abarth style is in this context. If it’s the 4-tip GT style probably not.
We’re free to use any exhaust of course. There’s an EMPI single tip setup that puts the tailpipe in the exact right place for an MG TD. Works fine and relatively quiet. It’s not ideal for horsepower though so if you’re running a hi-po engine consider other…[Read more]

Make sure your Gen light is good. If that bulb fails the whole circuit won’t work. Yes, it’s usually that simple.
To test the new generator, remove the fan belt and give it power from the battery using alligator clips: D+ to + and then – to case and DF (field). A good generator will spin like an electric motor (because it is). If that works,…[Read more]

edward ericson replied to the topic British Wheels on the Green 2023 in the forum Clubs and Show 1 year, 4 months ago
The knock-off adaptors are easy to get, and it’s not much to have a machine shop drill and tap the 4 x 4.5-inch pattern. I used bolts screwed from the inside of the drums and rotors to mount. All straightforward.
But the wheels widen the track by an inch at every corner.
On the front you can fix that with a narrowed beam. In back you’re…[Read more]

edward ericson replied to the topic Electronic ignition in the forum General Discussion 1 year, 4 months ago
Procedure:
Step 1: Leave the car over night somewhere safe where you can work on it without moving it. You want the engine cold for this.
Step 2: pull the valve covers and check the tappets. Use the Bentley Manual procedure or the one found in Muir’s “Compleat Idiot” illustrated manual. Be careful to note whether your pushrods are the stock…[Read more]

edward ericson replied to the topic OIL TEMP/PRESSURE GAUGE in the forum General Discussion 1 year, 4 months ago
The port most people use is on top of the engine just behind the distributor. There should already be a sender switch screwed in there with a wire coming off it. That’s your oil pressure (green) light. To get a proper gauge you T that port. Screw the idiot light sender into one hole and the gauge sender (either oil temp or oil pressure) into the…[Read more]
