Could you keep both for a year while deciding? I’d make the decision based on which one I enjoyed driving more. Getting them both road-worthy would seem the 1st step to a sale anyway, so nothing lost there but time and maybe a scraped knuckle. The BCW is probably a bit roomier. The original is cooler. Both will hold maintenance challenges. If the…[Read more]

Like most of the TDrs, the BCW is, I think, 3 inches longer overall than the TD. I believe the Fusseneggers stretched the hood a little in order to get a better fit of the body over the VW donor: it lets the BCW’s full length grill sit in front of the front axle beam and allows the rear torsion bar to tuck behind the front of the rear fenders. (Of…[Read more]

I think the P-1800-engined TD is kind of the best of both worlds. Authentic steel over ash body and 100 horsepower, but with proper dual-SU carburation.
Of course, I don’t have to maintain it….Sweet ride. Love the wheels. -

So there’s a date on the table. Paul is out. Vicenc is in. Anyone else?
Anyone have a date they’d like to try? -

Perfect.

I think that speedo might be from a Triumph TR2.

edward ericson replied to the topic Car dying in idle after carb rebuild in the forum VW Based Kits 9 years, 11 months ago
Could be. You want to set the idle on a warm engine. Cold fast idle should be like 1400. The Muir book has the procedure. Don’t skip any steps!

How’s June 18 for y’all? That’s a Saturday.
We could do like Roy’s old team did: half hour stints on the rack for oil changes or suspension adjustments or what have you. I’ll put some beer in the cooler and some burgers on the grill. If June 18 is NG suggest another. -

I’d love to host a tech session like Roy described. Who’s in?

A few hours fettling after work and I loaded her up.
I can just about walk upright under Bridget when she’s up with the top up. If I put the windshield down I’ll for sure get one more notch of lift, and that’ll give me full stand. Also planning on getting a tough old office chair with wheels, so I’ll be able to slide under anything else…Very psyched.

Lot of work and a fair amount of money. I ended up using a white-faced 5-inch Classic Instruments unit, plus a ’73 Bug Speedometer, which is just shy of the same diameter.
Before I did that, I looked into buying real TD gauge cases and transferring the guts to them. Too much work and money for my blood. -

Blog post. I have achieved lift.

OK, so the stick will tell you the stroke, but you’d have to know the bore too.
The compressibility of the air is going to be a factor, but you’d also have the combustion chamber volume and compression ratio to contend with.I am thinking Roy’s Balloon method would not tell you the difference between a 1905 and a 1915 cc engine, but it should be… -

Yeah, nice. The painted headlight buckets and grill slats are both nice details. Your car has a lot of nice details.

I don’t see why that wouldn’t work, so long as the valves and rings seal well.

Fuel tank gunk can be cleaned. Is it rotted out? If not, clean it. You can also coat the inside with POR 15 or similar. But maybe don’t need. The rubber fuel lines–replace. Put a new fuel filter six inches from where the tank lets out. Put another one in the rubber fuel line in front of… - Load More
