I bought my kit off ebay for just over $1000. Assembly had been started but was then put in storage for 20 yrs. It came without the donor car.

I used a cut polishing compound made by Aqua-Buff
used 1000 grit first and then finished with 2000 grit then put on two coats of wax.

To keep the engine cool you need to follow the design of the German engineers of the beetle by separating the cool air side of the engine from the hot air side. I fabricated a floor and side walls for my engine compartment out of sheet metal and made sure all the engine cooling tin was installed.

Did you actually remove the assembly from a beetle or did someone just hand you one and say it was from a beetle? My guess is that it is out of a vw van.
My 74 beetle assembly measures approx. 15 1/2 inches from shaft to shaft.

The wheels are aluminum alloy made by Western Wheel in the late 70’s or early 80’s. They came with my donor car. I had to spend some time to clean them up, they look great now.

I am still in the process of building my car — bought it 3 years ago last month– getting very close to being finished.
