The “red” and “blue” books by Robert Bentley publishers are/is also a must have, depending on the year of your Beetle donor.
These and the John Muir books are available at Barnes and Noble, B. Dalton Book Seller, Amazon.com, etc. -

Hey Bill,
Did you actually win or did one of your students mug a lottery agent? -
Mark Hendrickson replied to the topic Ford Header in the forum Chevy/Ford Kits 15 years, 7 months ago
Hi Monte,
If my memory serves me correctly, these were the holes that fed the A.I.R. ports for the cars equiped with A.I.R. fresh air pumps.
These holes go through into the exhaust port. The easiest “fix” may be to tap them for steel allen socket plugs (snub screws). That way the plug won’t protrude past the head to header flange surface.
I also…[Read more] -

WOW!!! Sounds like fun in the future for the Cochran’s.
I’m not a trailer expert, but I think dual axles, both with brakes are the way to go. Light weight and aerodynamic as possible seems like a gas mileage and less tow vehicle abuse improvement too.
Most of these replica car weights range from the 1,500-1700 lbs. for the VW based and…[Read more] -

Hey Larry…yours is Christmas red too…just like Santa’s Sleigh!
I am thrilled that like the car and most of all, thrilled that your “finished” it! I knew what it would look like all back together.
I’m still thrashing on my 1940 Ford Streetrod…motor mount fabrication…GEEEEZ! I want to make it’s first long trip a drive to Reidsville…[Read more] -
Mark Hendrickson replied to the topic MG TD grill (radiator shell) for sale in the forum MGTD Kit Parts and other stuff 15 years, 7 months ago
Lynn, these grilles are no longer available and have not been for several years.
Moss Motors used to sell reproduction units, but sold their last ones early in the decade.
I spent $800 to get mine rechromed when I had the BCW “Pink MG”. -

I would not want to try to drive this thing around a corner…but I’ll bet it’s fast in a straight line!
I’ve seen that yellow V8 TD at a cruise night in central NJ a few years ago. It too was a “straight line” car. -
Mark Hendrickson replied to the topic Facebook? in the forum General Discussion 15 years, 8 months ago
We get enought bogus users now…this site is not set up to block them. Facebook would generate even more IMO.
If people “google” MG-TD our site comes up. -

Pacesetter used to make a Chevette header, but it’s discontinued.
If you try the Chevette forum, http://members.boardhost.com/Vette_Man/ , there’s a guy that hot rods these motors for the dirt oval classes that run these cars in the TN, KY, IN area. It’s called Fields Performance. If I remember correctly. There was even a local cam grinder who’s…[Read more] -
Mark Hendrickson replied to the topic Here we go again! in the forum Chevy/Ford Kits 15 years, 8 months ago
The Chevette and Pontiac T-1000 DO NOT use the same driveline as the Vega, Monza, etc.
The original ’76-’77 Chevette drivetrain (1.4L/4 speed manual) was from the Opel Kadett. In 1978 the engine displacement was increased to 1.6L and the head was redesigned internally for more low-end, but did not flow as well at higher RPM’s. So, the older, rarer…[Read more] -

I have to add that Tyler and I are gratefull for our 2009 blessings too.
It was our pleasure to meet the Murphy’s and their family in May.
We hope to make a return visit to Reidsville in the future. Retirement may come soon and who knows where we’ll end up? It will surely not be here in NJ…too expensive!!!

Try some of the aftermarket VW houses like aircooled.net and wolfsburgwest. Google is your friend!
They had a VW swap meet at Englishtown Raceway Park in October and I saw about 20 sets of these hub cabs, NOS and used…bummer!

check out: http://www.thesamba.com/VW
Join their forum and start asking questions. I am not sure what year VW started the shaft mounted ignition switch.
My VW based car had a plain column with the blinkers and ignition switch mounted on the dash.
There are companies like Flaming River and IDIDIT that would probably have a column that would work great too. -

Mark Hendrickson replied to the topic Advice on replicas in the forum General Discussion 15 years, 8 months ago
JWH,
To my knowledgle, BCW never made a Ford based car…Chevette and VW only. Most of their Chevette based cars were “turn-key” vehicles given as prizes in a Schweppe’s Beverages promotion. They did sell a few Chevette based cars as unassembled kits and turn key units that were not related to the Schweppe’s Contest. The rarer VW based BCW kits…[Read more] -
