IMHO…avoid Lance Motors.
As far as I know, if the car you buy was titled out of state as a Replicar (RECON, etc.) you can just transfer the title to a NJ Title.
I did this with the BCW that is now Larry Murphy’s. It had a Connecticut RECON title that I simply transferred to a NJ RECON title back in 2004. -

Want to learn the basics of welding? Does you county have a Community College or other “Adult Education” Service?
Most of these offer courses in welding from beginner to advanced…well worth the time and $$.
Good luck! -

Mark Hendrickson replied to the topic Tires – Manufacture Date in the forum General Discussion 14 years, 7 months ago
The dry rotted and nearly new tread depth tires I just removed from my 1974 Beetle were dated 1996 and 1997
I knew they were bad and decided it was too risky to leave them on there.
Working on and off in the tire arena for years, I knew about the date codes. Places that sell a high volume of tires, Sam’s Club, Costco, BJ’s, Tire Rack, etc.…[Read more] -

That same car was listed on South Jersey Craig’s List a few months ago. Larry Murphy posted the link here. He was asking $5,500 firm and it said “shown by appointment only”.
It sure looks nice, but sometimes people use pictures that are years old. Got to be careful. He also says the Weber carb was added…NOT…that’s a standard Chevette…[Read more] -

Hey Mario…I’m the other “Jersey Boy”. I’m in Monmouth County. Both Paul Mossberg and I are former presidents of the now defunct New Jersey Replicar Club. Several other former NJRC members are members here too.
You did the right thing by inquiring here BEFORE you buy.
If you are not going to build, buying one that is done or just needs a little…[Read more] -

I doubt if many shops today will know how to adjust the camber using the upper ball joints. If you didn’t remove the ball joints from the trail arms, you probably didn’t disturb the camber.
However, you are correct in the caster change when using the lower beam tube shims. So, almost any shop can tell you what the caster and camber is and set the…[Read more] -

That tube you have is acting as balance tube between the manifolds. I’d connect the “034” vacuum to a tee in that line.
I have a brand new “034” in the box with a Pertronix Ignitor installed. I bought it from Aircooled.net for $250. I never installed it, buying an “010” centrifugal from Glenn Ring and installing a #1844 Pertronix Ignitor i…[Read more] -

Ed, it’s called demand…magneto’s are old technology and do not make the voltage of today’s coils/MSD type “boxes”. Most race cars don’t even use them anymore.
Get rid of the “009”, they’re horrible. Get an “010” or “019” from Glenn Ring on the SAMBA. Install a Pertronix (you may have modify the rotor slightly). You won’t believe the di…[Read more] -

Ed, don’t think it matters how the leaves go into the tubes….it only matters that they go through the center “alignment” square.
To get them in, I actually assembled the control arm and bushing on one end of the leaf stack, snugged the snub nut and inserted them into the tubes. Then I put the seals and control arm on the other side.
Don’t…[Read more] -
Mark Hendrickson replied to the topic vibration in drive train chevette in the forum Chevy/Ford Kits 14 years, 8 months ago
Is the car a manual or automatic?
You said, “I get a vibration in the drive train when starting out”. If that means when releasing the clutch, it could be clutch chatter from a few different causes.
Does it only happen as you “start out”?
Rotted mounts cannot help either. -

I always liked Beggars Banquet and 12 by 5.
I saw the original Rolling Stones at the Asbury Park Convention Hall in the summer of 1965…Satisfaction has just been released.
I saw them again at Madison Square Garden in NYC on July 26, 1973 for Mick Jaggers 30th birthday party. Stevie Wonder was the “warm-up” act. -

Sounds like yet another retirement project for me. I think there was a “bell housing” that holds a VW starter available that is already modified for a test bed.
Ed…you should should have seen what is available in the powder coating world. My powder coater is a great guy and can use all the trick new coatings. He’s local too! -

Welcome Steve!
By the looks of things we have a new VW expert joining us. I have a built 1776cc that is in an engine stand…wish it was like yours and I could test run it. It’s getting a Single Weber 40 IDF carb and an “010” Distributor w/Pertronix Ignitor.

Carlisle is just field with a few pole buildings and a couple pavilions…and huge hill. IMHO, not worth a 125 mile round trip to check out an empty Carlisle Fairgrounds.
If you headed south on PA 272 to US 30 east, you’ll be in Lancaster in 40 minutes. There’s tons of neat stuff to do in Amish Country…Strasburg Railroad http://www.strasburgrailr…[Read more] -

VW have no head gaskets, so I doubt if you have a blown one.
Are those Dual Kadrons? If so, get rid of the steel intakes and invest in a set of aluminum one’s from EMPI or Bugpack. The SCAT linkage is way better too.
I had no problems with clearance on my 1776 in the VW based first Pink MG. The air cleaners were a little tight, but “clocked”…[Read more] -

That’s about 60+ miles east of Harrisburg, between Pottstown and Reading, PA.
Too bad it’s not Carlisle Kit Car Show time…that’s only about 18 miles west of Harrisburg. -

Ask CIP1 where it is made. The VW aftermarket is the absolute WORSTfor horrible quality, ill fitting parts. I know, I have a lot of them!!!
