Ed, Wobby, we can buy ice on site if need be.I’ve got a 10×10 pop up tent too. Unfortunately, when it’s collapsed, it’s still bigger than the TD!Funny tho, when I take my 65 Plymouth out, I have no problem fitting the tent in the trunk.

Hey Bill,There are two “national” shows for the kit car hobbyist: Knotts Berry Farm in California (usually in April) and Carlisle Import/Kit/Replica Nationals in Pennsylvania in May.That said, in most areas car enthusiasts can be out every weekend and many weeknights if they choose. Google “Florida Car Shows” and see what pops…[Read more]

Detail tip…which you may know already. The z-bars that hold the rear trunk cover are the same diameter as bicycle handlebars. To plug the ends, go to a bike shop and buy four of the chrome caps used to plug he bar ends and hold handle-bar tape in place.

Awesome.Motor homes must be parked “up the hill”. That will make sense when you see the Carlisle show field.Show vehicles are organized by manufacturer. There is an area set aside for kit cars. The kits are grouped together, except that the Speedster/Sypder owners club (SOC) gets an area because they are typically one of the top three clubs in…[Read more]

No such thing as a cheap new girlfriend!Well, there is. But she probably would not be a keeper.
I looked at the picture of the 2031-13. Yes, you may retain your hater boxes with that muffler.

Very nice car.I agree with James. This sounds like the issue is with the switch and not with any of the lights or wiring,

Beautiful.
Nice work Gene.
I admire you guys that take on restorations of old kits. I feel lucky to have built mine in when my kit manufacturer was so active and accessible.
Of course you guys have TDREPLICA.COM to rely on. I had nobody. -

Hi Jon,Sure is. Right here in my office.Send me a pm with your email address. I will scan and email you the Duchess VW wiring diagrams. The Classic Roadsters Duchess did not use the VW gas tank. CR provided a ten gallon tank which sits on the floor pan, right side of the tunnel, in front of the firewall. The filler tube runs off the front of the…[Read more]

Like Larry said.Definitely try to buff it out before you spring for a paint job.Meguiars makes a line of boat polishes and waxes. I had good results with their stuff. If you do end up painting, you (or the painter) will probably sand the entire body to remove the gloss and then head straight for the spray gun. You may not even have to prime it,…[Read more]

Even in cars that only weigh about 1800 to 1900 pounds, you don’t want a 1200.
The other downside to the early VWs is the rear swing axles that you mentioned. You want a later chassis with the independent rear suspension. -
Paul Mossberg replied to the topic Partially Completed Kit Query in the forum VW Based Kits 15 years, 4 months ago
About ten years ago, I had a ’65 Plymouth shipped from California to NJ. It cost about $1,200 for transport on an open car carrier. Closed transport was far more expensive.
So $1,500 now is probably on target.
Of course you could always drive it home. 🙂

Probably. Some car experts merely want to be “right”; not necessarily accurate. Two stories, both involving the Jovi Mercedes I used to own as a daily driver. The Jovi was a Mercedes SL replica, built on a second generation Chrysler LeBaron Convertible (the egg shaped one that came out after the k-car based convertible. Mine was a 1991…[Read more]

Paul Mossberg replied to the topic Selling the car in the forum General Discussion 15 years, 4 months ago
The Solomon solution…cut the car in half.No wait a minute, that wouldn’t work.I got it. Mel buys the car. Greg gets visitation rights to maintain and drive the car. Mel also puts Greg in his will to inherit BOTH replicas. If Mel is as “dotty” as Greg claims, he may actually agree.
