Good idea Dan. Of course once the Harley mirror goes on the car, then come the tattoos, beard, leathers, doo rag, excessive drinking….Lord knows what else.

It is something I would do…at least until I started paying someone to mow my lawn so I could have my weekends back! But this wasn’t me. I am, however, protecting the name and reputation of the real culprit.

Hi Mel.
I tried a windshield mounted rearview mirror (glued to the glass) to repalce the dashmoutned rearview mirror. It vibrated so much it was essentially worthless.
Mounting to the frame might be better, but I think they would have to be mounted low on the frame, like where it is bolted through the body.
I replaced the two fender mirrors with…[Read more] -

This is what I can find after a pretty lengthy web search:Super Beetle Rear Track – 53.25 inches
Standard Type 1 Rear Track – 50.7 inches (this spec was for a 1960 Type 1 which means swing arm suspension). The Independent Rear Suspension has a wider track, but I have not been able to find the factory spec.Track is typically a measurement to the…[Read more] -
Paul Mossberg replied to the topic Tires?? in the forum General Discussion 16 years, 2 months ago
I had bias ply tires on my car when I first built it. The car would follow every ridge it could find. Swapping the bias ply for radials made all the difference in the world. The steering was a bit easier. But it was not a huge difference.

Hi Bill,
I’ve seen lovers and haters of both Unisync (clear tube with the floating red ball) and Snychrometer (the one looking like a boat compass). Here’s one comment, from a member of http://www.speedsterowners.com: “….the unisyn s–ks! Spend a couple extra bucks and get a synchrometer: http://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=ACC-C10- 7…[Read more] -

Are you looking for the measurement for a swing-arm? Or for an IRS? It may be the same. But I figured I’d double check what you are looking for.
Just a reminder oldbuzz….I don’t see you on the Registry list. Link is in my signature. -

Hi. Actually, it’s a reasonable question.
If you compare a buffed out gel coat finish to a painted finish, I think the painted finish will always look better. So it’s reasonable to think touch up paint will not blend well with a gel coat finish.
And there are alternatives. With my Duchess (bought kit in 1982) I received a gel coat repair kit. On…[Read more] -

At an auto parts store. Sorry, I couldn’t resist that.
But seriously, I took a scrap piece of gel coated fiberglass from my car into an auto parts store and simply compared it to all the touch-up paints. I found a match. If you don’t have something you can take in, start with some digital pictures. Find some paints that seem close and ask the…[Read more]
