The light front end is the root cause. But there are two schools of thought regarding a solution. Classic Roadstes Ltd. handled it with extra weight over the front end. But the prevailing theory is to soften the front suspension by removing leaves from the torsion tubes. Search for suspension in the forum, and you’ll find the main threads on this…

So your rack bolts to the “faux spare,” pretty much like the rack I found bolts to a real spare.

When I wrote about “original style” luggage racks, these are the two I was referring to. Neither will work on a VW powered TDr, where the “gas tank” is actually a moveable or removeable engine cover.

Bill,Hard to tell from the pic, but what is your rack attached to?It does not appear to attach like an original fold down rack, which had brackets bolted to the car, and to the bumper mounts (where they would get in the way of an opening engine cover), nor an original style top rack (which sat above the fuel tank).
