  • Thanks PaulI checked and all my connects are not quick connects so I think I’ll put those in when I redo the wires, chances are that many of the butt splices are pretty worn by now anyway. Fortunately, (?) I’m somewhat obsessive when it comes to stuff like this so I’m sure I’ll take photos and diagrams as I go along.  (Can’t trust memory like I…[Read more]

  • Hello FrankMy $20 via Mastercard is on it’s way. Thanks for taking care of this.  Let us know what else you need. Thanks Again,Ringo

  • Hello MarkIf… and that’s a big if…..there is ever a show or club meeting with more than one MGTD replica even close to home here, I would be glad to work on some I.D. short cuts. Chance of that is pretty slim considering the fact that mine is the only one I’ve seen in a 100 mile radius. My Classic Roadster Duchess is a front engine Ford with a…[Read more]

  • Hello LuckyWithout dash plates or other ID imprinted on the car, it’s hard to tell some of them apart.  Classic Roadsters are the most identifiable due to the step located in front of the rear fender where it attaches to the running board that does not appear on other models.  I have looked at a lot of photos both here and other places on the w…[Read more]

  • Welcome to the forum!Lots of good info here on the site. As far a relays go, I had a problem with the main fuse blowing when I ran the headlights for a long time.  The problem was the same as what you’re describing, wires too long with too much voltage drop. I put relays up at the front, close to the lights and ran main power direct from my…[Read more]

  • Hello GeorgeMy experience with carpet is that it’s always better to use the old for a pattern. You can then take it someone or cut out some yourself.  Be aware that most auto carpets are formed to fit over the tranny hump, foot well and sides so that a flat piece of carpet cut to the pattern may still not fit well. You can form the carpet to fit…[Read more]

  • After talking to the very helpful man at MG magic last year I received a price list in the mail one week later.  I still have a copy somewhere but it is probably out of date. But if you want, and there is a way to post here, I’ll do my best to send it along.Ringo

  • Pink MGThanks for the lead, I’ll try to contact him today.

  • Mr Bill     That boot was on ebay.  The link was on the yahoo MGTD site. The sale has ended.       I got the same boot at Advance Auto Parts (minus the $9 shipping). You might try there.    BTW I got a second boot that works perfectly for an E-brake cover.  It took some tucking into  the carpet to get it to lie horizontal, but it looks great!

  • Addendum
There is a vehicle number on my Duchess on the firewall under the hood.  In some states this may be the VIN they want for registration, but here they had to use the ’84 Nissan VIN for licensure.

  • Hello and welcome!
The VIN numbers can be a challenge. It can depend on the type of car your MG replica was built on.  With Fords the VIN was on the dash or the door frame, so good luck with that since those are gone.  With VWs the VINs were on the dash, under the hood, or on the tranny hump under the back seat. Again, good luck. With Cheve…[Read more]

  • As a current owner of a Ford based TD, and the previous owner of 4 VWs, my 2cents agrees with PinkMG. You say the frame is “no problem”, but realize that not only would it be a complete frame from stem to stern,  but the body would have to be widened as well as lengthened due to  the need to change the running gear to front engine/rear drive. U…[Read more]

  •      Thanks, I may need that site with the jet kit later on.  I also upgraded to a Carter 4070 fuel pump and with a quick tune with guidance from a Weber site ,(Redline), it runs so good that I’m going to tackle another project, new water hoses.  The summers here in Arkansas get too hot to trust to 24 year old rubber!
For me, half the fun is…[Read more]

Paul     That’s Lake Ouachita, close to Hot Springs, Arkansas

  • Sorry to hear about the rust.  It’s a pretty common problem with VWs and can  range from a minor fix to replacing the whole floor pan.  I’ve had 2 bugs that needed such repair. Replacement floor pans are available from many sources starting at about $100.  You can use part of the pan as a patch or replace the whole driver side.  If it’s a smal…[Read more]
