One big thing to consider if you purchase the orginal TD, is that you might have to purchase some of the orginal style ” wrenches, and sockets”. You may want to see if the battery posts and cable connections are clean and tight. A little bit of corrosion, can make a big difference if the battery will charge and start. The Head Light support arms for a Fiber Fab, are a curved flat bar, from what I have seen on other members cars. My Classic Roadster Dutchess, has the orginal MGTD round thick head light bar. Tom, yes I have used sail repair tape on my 30 ft sailboat, works well for the last 10 + years. You need to be sure the underside of the top is super clean of dust, lint, dirt etc. you also can purchase from “Sailrite ” their single needle stitch awl.
