Four more bolts loose. Four to go.
Unfortunately, the four I have left are the middle bolts. They are torqued on harder than the ones I’ve been able to break loose. And I’ve already hit them all many times with the impact driver.I quit tonight after sledge-hammering my left hand.Thinking of just loading the whole bastard on the truck and driving… -

The Ford headlamp switch has it built in.

I’ve been watching this thread because it’s interesting, not because I need these “brackets”. So, I asked my son (whom some of you have met in VaBch) about 3-D printing. Here is his response:Probably not of much help, but here you go:Certainly possible to print with 3D printer….(I don’t have one, but would love one for Christmas!!)….There…[Read more]

You could sure do it if you had an additive printer that prints metal. Trouble is, no one has one except mfgs.

Never saw one with the top fastened to the windshield like that.

I was hoping someone would say “home foundry.” Looks eminently doable that way, but it will surely be quite a lot of work. I really hope to see it!

Bought an impact driver. Got three more bolts loose. Only eight more to go.

That looks like a nice car. I think if it’s all in order it’s probably worth the asking range.

Does anyone have access to a 3-D printer? Could they just be spit out?

Update: I got one head bolt off tonight. 11 to go. Used an open wrench and a hammer.
(Before that I learned this: a hammer drill doesn’t work like an impact driver, even though it feels similar when it’s drilling through concrete. I love that I can still learn new things at my age.)Regarding VA Beach: I’m out. I really appreciate everyone’s… -

It’s true that the shift down into 2nd does engage the 1st/2nd fork. I suppose it could be a sloppy or maladjusted shifting mechanism. Maybe even that little shift rod guide at the base of the shifting lever?? I’m really going to be embarrassed if that’s all it is.

Somewhere. But not immediately findable. I’ll shoot the tool carrier tomorrow if you like. I no longer can use it, as the space is not occupied by a radiator. Basically it’s a plywood rhombus with three-inch sides and a 2×4 hanging off the front. The 2×4 rested on the beam and the back was supported by two more L brackets I riveted to the…[Read more]

Bill, I helped Jack get Emma running so well that I don’t dare drive it. From there on, it has been all his effort. Jack really gets off on major and incredibly minor (mostly cosmetic) “upgrades”. Jack even liked his fat boy muffler, until he got his speeding ticket. Now he has a hide-away muffler, a separate digital tach (the dash mounted…[Read more]

If I were smart and neat I would put all the relays in a pod on the firewall or maybe inside the tub, up under the dash. But accessible.
Because I am not smart or neat I now have relays all over the dang place–inside the right front cowl (three light relays); left cowl (horns); sitting unsecured next to the battery (fan) and under the driver’s… -
edward ericson replied to the topic 2nd gear synchro in the forum VW Based Kits 11 years ago
No idea. I suspect you are right.
But I have noticed on my car, even now with all new synchros & such, the downshift to second is not always smooth. Basically I’m blipping the reverse, I think, and it sounds positively brilliant. I suspect it is a combo of just-slightly-off shifter adjustment and general shifter-is-sloppy. In my case I can get it… -

Why 2nd gear synchro? Shifts great except for downshifting into 2nd. My experience tells me that that’s 2nd gear synchro prob. Am I wrong?

How are you so sure it’s the synchro? Do you have a 1st gear synchro?
I chose to have my trans done by the guy who did Cory Drake’s box and, though it cost me $1100 all said and done I have not yet regretted it. That said, if I had more time than money I would now consider trying my hand at it. And if I had already gone through a couple… - Load More
