I use the torsion tube in front–can lift both wheels easily if I’m near the middle. In back I use either the torsion tube housing or the square tube subframe from the kit. If I’m in the middle of that the whole back of the car comes up pretty easy.Word to the mechanic: whatever you lift it with, be damn careful in removing any of the front…[Read more]

Gee thanks Paul (I think). A few months ago, I crossed a few cars off my bucket list. A Singer 9 Roadster, a SS 100 and a Morgan. Now, you have me thinking again.
I actually had (but only in my mind) committed to buying a Morgan about 10 years ago. The seller wanted $13k and I got in my car and drove over with the intention of buying it as q… -

Greg, Google “crankcase ventilation”. In the photo, it goes to the underside of the bottom plate of the air filter.

My TD looked about like Dick’s when I got it. I added the tin around the pulley and also on the front by the flywheel. I reasoned that the pulley tin would help to keep radiant muffler heat from the engine. Seems to work in this climate. I rarely get over 200 degrees oil temp. 210 is the max recorded.
When talking about tin, I think it is i… -

I re-cut the Carlisle race vid. Next year we need to get driver’s seat shots of everyone in action.

While you’re there, might want to think about ripping out any wire that’s spliced more than twice and replacing with with a new wire. Could save some headache later on.

A “louvered firewall”? Is this is a perfect example of an oxymoron or what?
My 2 cents is: find some other use for it. If for no reason other than it would significantly increase engine noise in the cabin. -

Looking good, G! Nice job on the center cluster.
Did your car not come with headlight brackets? Or did you just want to make tubular ones? Those look very TD-ish. -

I am afraid to squirt water on a running engine, but I guess it is about the same as running through a mud puddle during a rain.
I take the distrib cap off and cover the dist with a bag. Then take the air cleaner off and cover the mouth of the carb with duct tape. I also run a band of duct tape around the generator cooling slots. Then hav… -
edward ericson replied to the topic Muffler in the forum VW Based Kits 12 years, 8 months ago
Welcome, Leigh. Several of us have various exhaust hook-ups under our TDs, and some have experienced more or less fiberglass scorching with headers or tail pipes. Sometimes a new muffler rig solves the problem. Sometimes it just takes a bit of persuasion on the existing exhaust pipes. Sometimes both. Do you have a stock Bug muffler right now?

Welcome to the site. Sorry, I can’t help with your muffler question as mine is a Ford. Be patient and you’ll have several qualified replies in a matter of minutes…usually.
