I have all the factory “tin” and have no heating problems. I do not have a thermostat installed because it was removed by the prior owner. But there is no seal between the tin and the body and this gap is sizable.
That being said, I have thought about excessive heat and I monitor my oil temperature carefully with an oil temp gauge as well as an… -

I just talked with Sam, one of the organizers, and he is excited about us returning this year. The definite date is Saturday, Oct 26th. Rain day is Sunday. Sam is very open about suggestions and improvements to the show since this is only the 4th year of it. He said that if we could get 6 pre-registered cars, we could be our own judging cla…[Read more]

Hah! I’m not even sure that I could beat Jack’s new BCW TDr and he’s just getting started on the finish work. His new machine is somewhere between 3 and 6 inches longer than other TDrs and was built by a fiberglass wizard. You have difficulty seeing where the extra inches are. Beautiful job. Plus is is about 200hp. (That’s dyno teste…[Read more]

Could the glass be just a tad too wide and with the frame pulled tight to the body is placing too much stress on the glass? The frame could be easily checked with a straight edge.

due to state inspection laws. lexan or tempered glass would be illegal for state inspection. I’m calling my hot rod buddies & get a shop that has done that style before

Dan: Safelite guys ought to be able to say for sure that the frame is bent–or it’s not. There should not be any doubt either way. I can totally get that they’re not going to install it for you ’cause it’s not in the book. My guys wouldn’t install my glass either after they cut it to make way for the top-mount wiper motor. But that policy should…[Read more]

Overlap, eh? Learning new things on this board alla time.
Here’s a TD side panel on the ‘bay. Not seeing the overlap here but my eyes ain’t all that.I always thought they made louvres, basically, by cutting the metal while bending the cut parts, like so. It is not immediately clear to me how any overlap would occur in this process. Maybe the press… -
edward ericson replied to the topic electric fuel pump in the forum General Discussion 12 years, 8 months ago
Ditto that. Check your mechanical fuel pump flow–and be vigilant with the filter(s). My only real break down so far came as the first tank of fuel got down below 1/4. It was crud in the tank lodging in the fuel filter.
Electric pumps have been known to fail as well. -

Ed, the molded fiberglass panels lack what what would be an acceptable overlap that exists with a punched steel panel. All you could expect to achieve with the fiberglass panel is a row of vertical slots in the molded ribs.

Royal replied to the topic Louvers anyone? in the forum Chevy/Ford Kits 12 years, 8 months ago
There are outfits that make louvers, – they are probably all in California. I vote with Bill and Montie, get a sheet of aluminum and have louvers punched in. Then, as Bill says, graft them to the side panels. I do think that the thickness of the fiberglass and the way that they are molded (at least in my Daytona MiGi) would not look good if op…[Read more]

You think the opened louvers won’t look good because the glass is too thick? Or some other reason?

I’ve seen the lovers painted or with pin striping applied in an attempt to make them look opened. Never cared for the end result. To cut them open I feel would end up with the same result. It just wouldn’t “look” right. With the underhood temperature, as long as the engine itself is running ok, the only problem would be to your paint. You can glue…[Read more]

Paul & Bill: I might open mine when I put a radiator up front for the Soob. Think I could box them on the inside and duct radiator through them, leaving a space inside that would remain out of the weather. Also thinking to replace the fuel tank with one like Paul’s–down low to the passenger side–which would open up a bit more luggage…[Read more]

Ah, you beat me to it. I saw in there a red TD with the wipers mounted up top and the legit TD top frame. I know that guy was posting here just before I joined the group. Guess he sold it; wonder who got it & where they are.
