Hey guys, despite having seen many of your Cars at Carlisle, I didn’t realize that I may be one of few that carries a spare in the bonnet.
I had been admiring your nice clean trunks (bonnets) and was even thinking of how to re-do mine but not at the expense of leaving my spare at home.Recall that I did try to relocate my spare to the rear, a ‘… -

It really is a how-to teach-a-thon. I always change my own oil now.

Hmm, being old and having always had a spare tire in my vehicles makes me a little paranoid about driving around with just a can of flat fixer — even if I add a 12 volt air pump to the mix…and even though I have not had to change a flat tire in quite a long time —

Pull the seats and carpet and take a look. (You’ll probably need carpet anyway if the floors are rusting).New pan halves are the right way to fix VW floors, but for a little hole in an otherwise solid pan you might be able to finesse a patch. Authenticity be damned though: metal is better than wood.

billnparts replied to the topic Brake Fluid in the forum VW Based Kits 12 years, 10 months ago
After 30 years the fluid would have absorbed a lot of moisture and those wheel cylinders are probably pitted on the inside. You can take them apart and check or just throw new ones at it. You’re doing everything else, they would be a minor addition to your repair.

You’d probably surprise yourself at how fast you can reach out and grab a wayward door. Regardless, a secondary locking mechanism would be wise.

Considering. Might could open it up to the Speedster types. I think Cory had an interest last year but ended up working that weekend.

gkesseru, truly beautiful work. I really don’t like the door strap idea at all. I prefer to be able to open the door wide if desired. The idea that a strap would eliminate damage if a door were to fly open is (in my opinion), folly. If you agree that the best defense is a good offense to keep the door secure you may want to reread this old…[Read more]

Um, guys?
Think about what would happen if your passenger door opened at 70 or even 60 mph.If the door did not blow off (or probably even it it did) you would change lanes very rapidly without signaling or even steering. That’s for starters. Assuming you had enough presence of mind not to over-correct for that and throw yourself into a spin,… -

edward ericson replied to the topic MP Lafer back on eBay in the forum Running MGTD Kits Cars for Sale 12 years, 10 months ago
That’s right, Kent. The MP Lafer is a Brazilian manufactured roadster design with a lot of styling cues from the TD, but it is not a TD Replica per-se. The doors are hinged at the front and the side windos are windows, not curtains.
That one looks a bit rough to me. I had thought they all had chrome grill shells. -

Did anyone else notice the top of the doors, the rear of the front side glass, and the top of the side tub by the seat backs are all channeled? Rigid side curtains, perhaps?
