Kent, I’m sorry, I guess I am confused. Why not take off a shock, measure between the mounts and see if your shock (at mid stroke) is about that measurement? It’s what I have always done. Is this wrong?

I guess I should add that my suspension is exactly like newkitman’s. No small torsion leaves. Stock shocks. It did drop the front end about 1-1/2 inches but the improvement in ride and handling went from scary poor to very good. The ride was previously so harsh that it would understeer a lot. Removing the leaves not only corrected that but now…[Read more]

Figured you guys would’ve figured out by now that I am graceless in every aspect of life. It used to bother me, but now . . .

Follow Al’s advice and disconnect the fuel line. You can do this at the inlet to the fuel pump. If no fuel comes out of the hose (almost all of them are above the level of the fuel pump) then you know where to start. If this sat in a garage for 10+/- years, it is very likely that your next move will be to replace the fuel tank. I have tri…[Read more]

Super to hear it, Jack. Hope you have a safe ride from MA to NC. I used to drive FL to CT and back on the regular and would stop in NC overnight. Not towing a project car though (most times) and never flat-towing. Looks like Baltimore is right around your half way point. If you need a waypoint layover contact me.

ok the body is loose. all that’s left is the speedo cable & master cylinder bottle. I’ll get a couple of neighbors to help me lift it off. I’ll try to get some pictures this weekend.

Really glad to have Jack among us.
Jack has a really nice (almost perfect) driver Bugeye Sprite but was so impressed with the camaraderie of the TDr group at the Carlisle Kit Car Show, he had to get one.TDring: It’s contagious!Welcome aboard. -

It’s stunning, isn’t it? Stock 2011 WRX is 265HP. And all-wheel drive. They are thinly-disguised pro-rally cars that ought to be able to run circles around us with even grandma at the wheel. Now I laugh at these hood-scooped wannabe racer boys. Ha! I laugh!Someone find them so I may laugh to their face.

I know there is a history of MG’s and Speedsters at Carlisle, and that I’ve only been there twice, but…The number of speedsters in attendance minus our 10 entries still leaves them with an amazing lead in the contest for club size. The second place club had only 11 entries. With an even greater attendance projected for 2014, would it make sense…[Read more]

Very cool! Thanks, Paul.Word on Chuck Beck: He drove Cory’s car for one round–lost oil pressure–and so then transferred the number to one of his own creations. Cory knows which car it was; it was not a 356.Holy crap! Just noticed: My car iced, like, 3 Miatas in raw time? I don’t know how that happens….edsnova2013-05-29 08:14:15

$5k sounds a little high to me for a car that needs work. But that’s me. $5k is always gonna sound very high to me until I want to sell my car, at which time it will suddenly seem an insultingly low figure, not meriting a counter-offer.Carpet: $100 from Lowes or Despot for enough marine low-pile black to do four or five TDs. Padding is up to…[Read more]

Have a look at the brakes. The soft lines are probably NG. My car was running and I still had bad lines, a crumbly shoe on one side, etc. Drain the fluid, replace the soft hoses, at least. Probably do the shoes and wheel cylinders too, at least in front. You’ll get a look at the bearings while you’re at it, and that won’t hurt. Re-grease them and…[Read more]
