Done with the spare tire mount. Put the back wheels on the car. Dropped the whole rear section of the car on a bit of sharp metal.

Yeah pretty easy. I needed my wife’s expertise (and sewing machine) for the back corners; she installed some elastic gathers there and pie-sewed the edges. You can see what needs doing just by draping the curtain over the cockpit. I installed the snaps first and then had her sew.
Overkill: I also sacrificed a chamois cloth and had Karen sew strips…[Read more]

BOTH SHOULDERS?
Not all the same day I hope? And also hope you can spring for the bionic “forklift strength” upgrade.

I believe I’ve got room for an electrical fan. I considered the short water pump, but it’s an expensive aftermarket piece. Then you have pulley issues. Another snowball.

I made mine out of a Union Jack shower curtain. No zipper, and really light-weight but good for keeping the dew out overnight during spring shows, and keeping prying eyes (and spring showers) out if I need to park her somewhere for a few hours. Including the snaps and a snap installation kit I think I have $40 in the thing, and mine cost more than…[Read more]

Can’t tell from this angle, but would the fan you need fit behind the grill after you push the rad a half inch forward? And will the rad still fit inside the grill shell? I wonder if a shorter water pump might not be the easier solution….

Well I am able to work again. I went and bought an inversion table. It’s my new best friend. I can walk upright again.
Anyway, I put some stuff together to see what else I have to move. The steering shaft support had to be rethought. The original support bearing is way too bulky for this installation. (Jack, you need one?)
The long water…[Read more]

I was using flux wire until about a year ago. Went to a flea market and bought a gas bottle and regulator. I’ll never look back. (I’m using CO2)

It, of course, depends on the design. But, it should cover everything that would be “inside” the car including the dash and it’s instruments. From the top of the humps all the way back to the top of the tub, over the collapsed top and attach just forward of the “fuel tank”. Usually they had a zipper running longitudinally from the rear view mi…[Read more]

It’s flux wire and it’s a new (to me) unit. I’ll get it dialed-in, don’t worry.

Ed, not a play on words: are you using gas…..or flux wire?

edward ericson replied to the topic Rain Leaking In in the forum VW Based Kits 7 years, 6 months ago
In my experience, tarps hammock in the rain and then leak. To make a leak-resistant (note I don’t say “leak-proof”) tarp system you have to tent them in a A-frame configuration. Any loose area that’s even slightly near horizontal will become a rain collector and then leak.

Five hours in the shop today and I almost made a new cross bar.
Wait till I get into the actual build, right?
