John, The wheel looks great!! It sure does add to the period look and blends well with the interior colors.I look forward to seeing the glove box . What is the diameter of the wheel?

Thx Paul.
As it turned out I didn’t use the adapter. Now I am waiitng for the horn button (back ordered)to arrive. I jury-rigged the old button for now.I Love the period looks of the Flat4 Banjo steering wheel. Now my next little project isto replace the ugly radio with a TD glove box and door.

Thanks Gents.
I am hoping that since it is titled as an ’85, and presently registered in another state, that the process will not be TOO bad….but we’ll see on Friday. After talking to the elderly former owners, she seems like she has had recent service, and has been on the road regularly, but I will surely be doing the routine maintenance stuff… -

Chip, i also have a london roadster. In New York State in order to register it you have the weight, they want a computer print out of the weight .I took mine to a local gravel pit the weight was 1840lbs.The only problems i have had is fuel delivery(fuel pump),healey coil(blew out a spark plug) and wheel bearing.Any numbers you might need to ob…[Read more]

Hey Chip, Welcome aboard. You’ll have a great time with your LR and we look forward to your questions. I will leave any LR specific answers to one of our LR owners. The only thing that I could see wrong with your new ride is that it is too nice. What are you going to “tinker” with? Good luck and don’t forget to check the tire codes (if 3 digi…[Read more]

As I understand it , the London Roadster can be built on a steel chassis or a VW pan.
It should have 15 inch rims, please check the tire code to make sure the tires are not really old and unsafe. They can look like new but still would be unsafe if too old.the spare tire is carried in the rear , but yours has a tire cover , I do not see the… -

Here I am….the guy that bought that LR that started this thread. I’m sure some of you figured I’d show-up sooner or later!
Car is being delivered Thursday night, and I can’t wait to get her on the road.Seems like many of you know a lot more about “my” ride than I do, so please feel-free to clue me in on the important stuff.I’ll be searching the… -

I like this disty idea. I had a pretty new one lose the center button last year. They don’t make ’em like they used to. Only takes a minute to check.

Nice breeze when in the car. But no hair for it to blow through!

Wasn’t it windy up there?

Paul Mossberg replied to the topic VW Engine Won't Start in the forum VW Based Kits 13 years, 7 months ago
I wish. But no. Other than taking them off one at a time when I checked the plugs, the wires are right where they were when the engine was running fine.
Didn’t spend much time on it on Sunday. Instead I took the Plymouth for a long, top-down ride to clear my mind! I’d say a wind in the hair ride, but that would be lying.

I had an old Beetle that I rebuilt and had the same problem on reassembly. Turns out I had plug wires crossed. Couldn’t be that easy could it?

Paul, I know you have pumped fuel into a container, but have you checked the output PRESSURE of the new pump? The sputtering and backfiring could be symptoms of not enough fuel getting to the carbs.

That’s part of the frustration…everything in the ignition chain is new, cap, rotor, points, condenser, plugs, plug wires. All new and correctly installed.Engine WAS running. Then stumbled and died.

Paul, just a random thought, check the dist cap too. I remember waaay back in auto shop in high school, we had a test trying to diagnose a engine problem that was runnin rough. Turned out the teacher had taken a pencil and marked the electrodes with the lead graffite. New cap it ran fine , I totaly missed it. There might be just enough…[Read more]
