My car in Florida is titled as a 1987 ASPT RD, whatever that means, (roadster), and the insurance card says 1987 1953 MGTD. What does ASPT mean?

Roy,
This sounds a little like what I did except I just had the hub/adapter drilled to 4x130MM – 4 plus years now w/o a issue. I do think my hub might be bigger then yours and is not a option to you?Dale -

John,All your NC info is in the document linked to in the post above.NC titles kits with the year of the vehicle they replicate.Pre-1996 vehicles are exempt from emissions inspection. And you now have a titled and registered 1951 MG! What is the license plate sticker? You should get NC’s antique or historic plates.

I am still working on a solution to mounting these wheels and would like opinions. The stiffeners on the inside of the brake drums are a bit wider than the 14mm VW tapped holes in them. Enough so that you can almost drill a 7/16″ hole alongside since it would be on a smaller 4 1/2″ (114.3mm) pattern of my adapters. (Increasing the hole patt…[Read more]

George, thanks for the lead….bought it. It’s almost like the one that came with the car so it’ll be an easy quick hook up. I’m not sure if I’ll use it long term but for $36 it keeps the wiring project going.Onward!

I’ll order mine from Mid America Motorworks. Better price including shipping that locally.

Allen , dont have them on my 74. I used a cheap oil filled shock.I bought them from JC Whitney a few years back. They work fine. This was before I learned there are much better places to get Beetle parts than Whitney.Mike N Scarlett2012-06-03 12:43:46

Allen you run two relays. One for low beam and one for high beam.Fuse both relays individual. The below diagram shows two 4 pin automotive relays. I used 5 pin dual 87 Not (87 and 87A) this allowed me to run the voltage to the lights with independent legs rather than splice the two headlight wires together and saving very little wire.. The…[Read more]

So Mike. Are you saving you wires a relay to each headlight? Wouldn’t one relay be enough? I’d like to see a wiring drawing or diagram on how you set it up. But glad you have brighter lights. Its nopt mentioned in my assembly manual but I plan on adding the relay for the headlights and fog lights.

“Herbie” spent some time outside during a long time ago divorce, and his British Racing Green color became quite faded. I tried several products of rubbing compounds and waxes, to no avail. I used 1000 grit wet sanding, and then a Boat Marine product called “Penatol”. It is a liquid fiberglass restorer, that you wipe on with a lint free towel. It…[Read more]

One small correction to the original article. The cars weren’t built for sale, but were built for the personal use of the Shriners. I managed to meet with one of the only surviving builders a year ago and got the history. You should see his. They had access to a foundry at work and he cast all of the parts for his car in brass. They used orig…[Read more]

Correct, I have one of the five front engined version. There was a total of five VW based cars built also, for a total of 10. The front engined versions had opening hoods like the real TDs’ All of the front engined versions had Ford Pinto running gear, some with 2.3s although mine, being the first completed has the 2.0. As stated above, the…[Read more]
