Good to have you with us, George. Tell us where you’re located; there may be someone close by who could lend a hand — or, in my case, an ear.

I use the same analyzer except the newer (?) 161.214230 with plug in removable wires. I expect that you are good to go with the link that Paul sent, if not, I can copy mine for you.

Welcome aboard George.
Over in the manuals section you will find complete schematics for a VW based Classic Roadsters Duchess (down near the bottom of the Download Manuals page).
While not a Fiberfab, there should not be much difference. They may help. -

My first kit car love was a VW van called the Phoenix. Fiberglass covered 1 inch tubing and 1 inch styrofoam body panels. Even have the plans to make one.

Way to go Greg. I would have driven Bridget, but I started taking things apart again. Drilled my windshield frame for a top mounted wiper system, and dropped the whole mess off at Smith Auto Glass so they can notch the glass. Fingers crossed they don’t mess it up.

Thanks Allen, Maybe everybody does this but I took off the rear bumper, made it a lot easier on a Daytona since with the engine lid up, there is nothing else behind the muffler/rear pulley.

Roy…Glad you got the engine out. Now’s a good time to check the torque of all the cylinder head nuts and also the clutch throwout bearing. Check the bottom of the engine between the flywheel and case for an oil leak. If you find oil, the flywheel seal is probably nicked. As for what type of cooler, if it is within your budget, get the doghouse…[Read more]

Got the engine out. Took an hour with the help of my neighbor to stabilize it while balancing on the floor jack and sliding aft. It’s pretty easy. Glad to have her out. Now am gonna fix the oil cooler and clean everything up spic and span so you guys won’t embarass me to much at Carlisle.

Never thought of that, Ray, although I have been tinkering with the idea of trying to shim the bottom of the two hinges. Will have to check that out. Thanks for the tip.

Bill I had the same problem with mine. At some point it had been opened to far and cracked the fiberglass allowing it to sag. I took the door off and installed a piece of metal behind the fiberglass on the body reinforced with more fiberglass , Redrilled the holes for the hinges. Reinstalled the door it shuts and lines up like it should. Also f…[Read more] -

Allen, I’m sure that you are right, but I really want to check a few more things before spring when I start driving MiGi every day. There does seem to be plenty of room if I wanted to do the job without pulling the engine. I “need” to do a really good visual and I’ll sleep better. Do you have any recommendations on oil coolers?
-
newkitman replied to the topic Oil leak – pretty big in the forum VW Based Kits 13 years, 4 months ago
You might not have to pull the engine. You might be able to get away with removing the engine cover. Then you should have all the room you need to pull the fan shroud with generator/alternator and get to the oil cooler. May save you some time.
