Took Bridget to the Post Office this a.m. to send Rocky his dashboard tracing. It’s nicer out now. 54 degrees but feels like 64. Sunny. The bad news is, with weather like this in January, it doesn’t seem like there’s a good time for the incapacitating refurb jobs that need doin’–such as my own dashboard project. No time for more cruising (or…[Read more]

Royal,
since this thread was started I have been leaning toward the pump/filter combo so I have been trying to find out info at the samba. As with most things VW they are split about 50/50 on this subject. The only combo they recommend is the Maxi 2 from CB performance. They also say to leave the oil strainer in to catch larger particles before…[Read more] -

It does look sharp in the photo. I especially like that British=style front plate, although I don’t believe it would pass muster with the police here in Texas.

I’m sure this is terribly difficult to bear, Paul, coming so soon after the holidays. But as Allen noted, there will come a time when the pain will be replaced by the warmth and comfort of remembering happier days. My best to you and yours, and most especially to your dad.

I agree — excellent lens work.
Did those fog lamps come with the TD, or did you add them? -

Got mine used for like $70. Came with the 1 7/8-inch (I think) ball, just a little smaller than the ball I had mounted on my bumper to tow the boat. So I have to change the ball hitch when I want to tow Bridget.Works perfectly; easy hook-up, very light to tow.Speedster guys advise that the spring clips that go through the pins need to be inserted…[Read more]

Greg, If you have a VW front end, Buy a tow bar made for VW’s. It will only cost about $100 tops new and you will be a happy camper. I bought one before I bought my car and towed it home. The tow bars (I’ve seen a few) for old VW Bugs are all almost identical. They hook on to the lower torsion bar tube and are held on by 2 pins. Inst…[Read more]

Marc Lipsius replied to the topic Adding sheeting in the forum General Discussion 13 years, 5 months ago
That was the way it was when I got it, there were no heater hoses and the heater outlets off the fan shroud were plugged. On my car, the rounded caps that the hoses should attach to underneath the tin (I don’t know what you call them), where they attach to the heater boxes, do not exactly line up and and the end caps don’t readily slip over them,…[Read more]

It seems logical that if you plug the air going to the heater, you might get more air going thru the oil cooler, but doesn’t just turning off the heat do essentially the same the same thing? …and since you wouldn’t want heat in the summer anyway, is it necessary to take the hoses off and plug the fan outlets on an engine that runs hot or if…[Read more]
