I’ll second what Paul said, although along with the “knowledgeable” owners you’ll also encounter some (I’m raising my hand) who hardly know which end of a wrench to hold. We are friendly, though! So crank up your engine, get it in gear and join the fun!

When I ordered the CV joint kits for my Ghia each CV joint box came with the CV joint grease in the box. 4 CV joints; 4 tubes of CV joint grease. And like BDriver says…wear rubber gloves and expect to get really dirty. Its a dirty job but sopmebody’s gotta do it! Be patient and it’ll go like……greased CV joints!

Success!
Thanks to all of you who held my hand while I took all those leaves out of my front end. I’m done. Took her for a ride and got the result that everyone predicted: Rides beautifully. I must admit that taking a total of 8 small and 2 large leaves had me very worried that when I put her back together and took the stands out, the tires wo…[Read more] -

Rocky, I am a bit embarassed by how incredibly “ready to eat off” clean your work looks. I always thought that I was a bit anal about cleanliness, but after comparing to your stuff, – I’m not. Just beautiful work on your stuff. You really could (perhaps should) put together a “replicar book for compleat idiots”. I tried to post pictures but…[Read more]

VW specified a really sticky black lube for the CV joints. Us the right stuff or you will shorten their life.
Wear latex gloves. It’s really hard to remove from anything it touches.

Can you tighten up the nut on the heat lever stud a tad to make it hold?

Welcome John, I, myself am pretty new to the TD Replicar community. There is a wealth of knowledge available here and everyone is on your side and wants to help. I often wonder how we ever managed without the internet. We do seem to have a lot of Tar Heels in the forum. Perhaps we could have a Tar Heel meet some day.

I have the same problem with the heat lever on my Lafer, Ed. And my back is too old and stiff for me to be reaching down there every five or ten minutes to reopen it. When my grandson is with me, I can delegate that duty to him, although he’d rather sit up and look cool for the girls.

Good evening John. Glad to have you aboard. You’ll have questions and there are a lot of London Roadster owners our group so you’ll have an abundance of assistance. Also I believe there are a number of folks in the group from NC. Most in the group I think.

Drove Bridget to AutoZone & bought some StaBil fuel stabilizer & poured about 4 oz in the tank, which is full.Installed the Gene Berg dipstick temperature sensor too. Don’t like the way the wire is routed, but can’t see another way. Ah well.Nice to get out one more time. Work to be done over the winter though, starting with the heat lever, which…[Read more]

Ahhh! She’s awake. Good weather this past week has melted most of the snow and the TD has emerged from hibernation to once again ride. More rides tomorrow and next week. She also gets fresh oil and valve adjustment next week. Taking advantage of every good day.

Mark Hendrickson replied to the topic No More Grundy in the forum General Discussion 13 years, 5 months ago
I had a bad experience with Grundy after years of using them. I wrote about it here.
Their underwriter used to be Chubb Insurance Company. Grundy got a new underwriter (I don’t know why) and that’s when my problems started. The new underwriter is Philadelphia Indeminty Insurance Company as Ed noted.
Halfway through my policy period, I got a let…[Read more] -

Yeah Ed, I am not sure if someone has “been here before” or if this front end assembly came off some VW that was heavy in the front end. (Or they just wanted super stiff suspension.) Anyway, I started with 10 big leaves and 8 little ones (both tubes) and finished with 8 big ones and no little ones. Seems a bit radical to me, but am going wit…[Read more]
