Drove Bridget to AutoZone & bought some StaBil fuel stabilizer & poured about 4 oz in the tank, which is full.Installed the Gene Berg dipstick temperature sensor too. Don’t like the way the wire is routed, but can’t see another way. Ah well.Nice to get out one more time. Work to be done over the winter though, starting with the heat lever, which…[Read more]

Ahhh! She’s awake. Good weather this past week has melted most of the snow and the TD has emerged from hibernation to once again ride. More rides tomorrow and next week. She also gets fresh oil and valve adjustment next week. Taking advantage of every good day.

Mark Hendrickson replied to the topic No More Grundy in the forum General Discussion 13 years, 9 months ago
I had a bad experience with Grundy after years of using them. I wrote about it here.
Their underwriter used to be Chubb Insurance Company. Grundy got a new underwriter (I don’t know why) and that’s when my problems started. The new underwriter is Philadelphia Indeminty Insurance Company as Ed noted.
Halfway through my policy period, I got a let…[Read more] -

Yeah Ed, I am not sure if someone has “been here before” or if this front end assembly came off some VW that was heavy in the front end. (Or they just wanted super stiff suspension.) Anyway, I started with 10 big leaves and 8 little ones (both tubes) and finished with 8 big ones and no little ones. Seems a bit radical to me, but am going wit…[Read more]

Good work, Roy.Interesting that your bottom tube had big leaves where two side-by-side small ones usually go.

If your battery connections are tight then you may have a cracked connection inside the battery from banging on it to set the connector. If you jiggle it, you may be getting it to make contact inside the battery again. If that’s the case, you need a new battery unless you want to do that every time and one day it will totally fail and you will be…[Read more]

Getting back to my ride height “problem”. I have torn the front end apart and it wasn’t really all that hard. (But I must confess to owning a ball joint fork and a gear puller that made that job easier.) Another tool that I own that is helpful but not really necessary is a 3/8 drive 1/4 hex for the grubs. I did not have a helper (she went sho…[Read more]

I had not seen one of these for storage. Do you use your’s outdoors? The company literature says indoor use only. How long have you had your car capsule?

Not a cheap alternative but I have my Miata stored in the winter in a bubble as I have run out of garage space. My wife isn’t willing to give up her side of the garage 🙂

Re: The question about the roll bar. I put one on mine and then attached three point seat belts to it, much safer. It sits just under the front bow for the roof and is made of 1/4″ rolled steel turned to 2” in diameter. Triangulated support attached directly to the frame (very similar to the design used for the TD 2000. If you want more in…[Read more]

Acorns would be a nuisance, but even worse is feral tomcats spraying your seats, doors and dashboard. That happened to me, but fortunately before I had the interior reupholstered.
Now I’m very careful to keep both garage doors shut tight if my Lafer is parked inside — especially in what passes for winter down here.

That’s the way the trim shop installed my new door panels. The retainers are available at Lowe’s, and probably Home Depot, Ace and Tru-Value. Not expensive. It’s a very finished look (and the panels can easily be popped out and re-installed, if necessary).

My TD “lives” in a shed similar to the one currenttoy linked to.
Trust me…they are NOT rodent proof.
I scatter moth balls in the passenger compartment, the front trunk and around the floor, especially around the tires. I still find acorns in the car. But in many years have had NO damage to the car. -
Mark Konrad replied to the topic On The road again in the forum General Discussion 13 years, 9 months ago
Allen
The door panels are secure using a Nylon Door Trim Panel Retainer instead of a screw.
They are installed in the door panel behind the fabric. We used the previous screw holes in the door and we simply pushed the retainer ends into them to secure the panel to the door. -

Marc Lipsius replied to the topic "MG" horn ? in the forum VW Based Kits 13 years, 9 months ago
You can also go with a Stebel air horn or one of the knockoffs from Harbor Freight or Advance Auto Parts or any similar store. I have them on my motorcycles and they are LOUD, 139db, and a very valuable safety item, especially in these little plastic cars. They can be mounted under the hood by the front grill, or outside if you want. The whole…[Read more]
