I too am an old antique and here in Georgia, it’ll be an antique car as well. They use the VIN for registration and any car older than 1975 can get an antique plate so I’ll get the antique car tag with the litte model T on the left side. Cool. I’ll have a Brit looking plate on the front with the word MONEYPENNY on it.

Could be the German V6 that wsas used in the Mercury Capri.
If my memory serves me, their heads and intake were slightly different than the 2.8L V6 that was available in the Pinto/Bobcat, Mustang II and early Ranger/Bronco II variants.
Try contacting Racer Walsh in Florida or Esslinger’s in California. An engine serial number or block casting nu…[Read more] -

I’m an antique with a much newer car “2008”.
I tried to get an old plate but in NH they use the date the car was first Titled, in my case 2008. -

Got mine. Not “antique” but “historic.” Yours is a better deal though.

Thanks for the interest. This is definitely a fiberfab the ff logo is molded into the fire wall with a serial # that starts with 1978. I’m assuming that’s the year the kit was made. Interesting enough a friend who is a mechanic thinks this was built professionally. It has a datsun independent rear end’ brakes’ clutch slave cylinder. The wiring…[Read more]

Do you know the kit manufacturer? It looks like a FiberFab or Classic Motor Carriage except all those have wider fenders on the front engine models. You may have a rare one indeed.
I can tell from the pictures that you have lots of fun with the car. -

Allen,
my CMC/Fiberfab has the same setup you describe. The original builder did not cut the slots in the spare tire mount, nor did I. I am not having a heat problem without the slots cut even on a hot 100 degree southern day. My engine oil temp maxes at about 205. It seems there is enough airflow, that upper compartment heat build up is not a…[Read more] -

Thanks everyone for all the input. My biggest concern I guess is structural intyegrety after making all those slots. On my CMC kit, the spare tire support holds the spare tire with two lugs through the rear face of the support. That weakens the support enough and now I have to add several slotted holes on the rear face. Just worried that the…[Read more]

Correct Phil.
The engine compartment on a Beetle (or any of the air cooloed VW’s for that matter) is sealed so the top end and bottom end are insulated from each other.
Exhaust and heads are below the engine compartment floor.
To the extent we can replicate that environment in our TDs, our VW engines will be much happier.PMOSSBERG40570.4208217593 -
