I was lucky I got those US Wheels when I did. It’s harder to find RWD 4x100m steel wheels now than hen’s teeth! Nobody makes them anymore. You can sure find a “zillion” FWD 4x100mm wheels though.
I bought that old single axle open trailer (wooden ramps) from a fellow NJRC member. It was sitting in his business’ parking lot for several years. He…[Read more] -

Also have to say welcome to the forum. Its the best TD group on the planet. also great having another GA person here. I’ll be working on my wood dash today. Need to add a few holes for the optional switches I purchased and move the High Beam indicator to between the speedo and tach.

Hey Ford. There are three listed on the Samba ( http://www.thesamba.com ) right now. Don’t remember if they are close to GA. Wait…someone in the TDs for sale here on this forum has one for sale in the Villages at Ocala, FL. Try that.

years ago Dayton used to make a 15″ 52 spoke wire wheel for the VW bolt pattern. the price was about $1,800 for a set of four. That is likely what you have seen.In September 2009, I made a connection with Truespoke and had a quote of about $1,500 for a set of four. These would have been custom drilled as they have nothing in their standard product…[Read more]

I know what you mean.. If it were closer I’d buy it just for the parts. I remember someone ask about finding a grille, here’s their chance for it and a whole lot more.

Hey Mark, Thanks for the info. My London Roadster had 15” wire baskets with adapters to convert the VW pattern to the 4 3/4” chev . I just could not trust them and went back to VW wheels. You did a good thing when you put the US Steel wheels on the BCW. I see you have upgraded in the trailer department as well. Thanks for posting the…[Read more]

Hey Larry,
I know that BCW used a 13″ flat chrome dish 4x100mm with the wire basket inserts on most of the Chevette based cars. I still have a set (minus the baskets) from your car. Nice bases for a sign post!
I have seen a few, like the one recently on Craig’s List in South Jersey, that had slotted VW “looking” wheels. I am not sure if they we…[Read more] -

I’ve seen adapters used on VW wheels to fit Chevy or Ford rims but don’t know if the others have done that to fit VW rims.

This is somewhat off the subject here, but does anyone know how BCW adapted what appear to be VW wheels to their Chevette based cars?Chevette lugs are on 100mm center and VW on 140mm so it would seem they had to replace the center of the VW wheel [only the area behind the hubcap] or change the stud placement in the drums and rotors. This has…[Read more]

Those wheels on the rear in the picture appear to be Mexican Beetle rims. The fronts are not not the same wheels.
You can use the stock slotted VW wheels and get flat hub caps that fit them. Check out Paul Mossberg’s. -
newkitman replied to the topic VW RIM Question in the forum VW Based Kits 14 years, 3 months ago
What I’m hoping to find is a good VW rim and hub cap combination that closely resembles a TD wheel and hub cap. They sell VW rims with round holes but they are 14 inch rims and I’m not certain they would accept a hubcap. I’ll keep looking I guess. But the bug in VA is promising. Not sure if I want to make a 12 hr trip one way though. I’ll keep…[Read more]

Montie…the grille shell on that Ford based car is probably worth the starting bid! Wish it was on the “right” coast.

For reference: 4 lug VW rims are 4x130mm bolt pattern and use a 14mm lug bolt. The 5 lug are 5x205mm and use a 12mm lug bolt.
I recently had some 4 lug VW “Marathon” wheels (a.k.a. Baja Bug) widened to 8.5″ (stock backspace) and had them powder coated bright red. They are going on the rear of a Volksrod I am building.
When I needed center caps, I…[Read more] -

As for lugs or ears for a half moon (or stock TD) cap, looks to me like that would be a custom job, maybe manageable with some very careful measurements and sheet metal screws. But looks like it’d be tricky for a home mechanic to get that stuff centered just right. Then again, if the hump on the rim was just the right size, one might be able to fit…[Read more]
