I do better with my Rotozip now that I run it at like half speed most of the time and change the blade after every other cut. It runs away from me a lot less now. Rip guide for this job might be as simple as clay pressed into the insides of the louvers with a steel straight edge pressed into the edge of the clay.

Someone sold one of those mosquito rad caps on ebay earlier this year. went for something like $400, if I recall it right.

Ran into the same problem, (almost burned my thigh on the switch!).
Relays fixed it!  Looking at wiring diagrams, it seems they used the bare minimum on some of the circuits. Plan on relays sooner or later.

Don’t you hate how something so simple can be such a pain in the butt to get rid of?
Oxalic acid will neutralize rust.  It’s the active ingredient in most wood bleach sold at Lowes or HD. Check the ingredients to be sure it’s oxalic acid based.  DON”T use bleach, it’ll just set the stain.  I’ve used it on many surfaces, but never fibreglass.  Che…[Read more]

I liked james’ comment on non-stainless screws. My migi had no stainless screws anywhere and jus a few brass ones. Even the snaps for the tonneau were plated ferrous material. I’ve been replace-ing everything that shows with stainless. The galvanized 1/4-20 screws that hold the whole thing together don’t rust but they are not very pretty after a…[Read more]

WOW, some of those are awesome…..some not so much. I really like the Ford one…too bad it doesn’t say MG.
I have always liked this one as a hood ornament. MOSQUITO, our state pest. JasCochran40428.7412962963

Yow, I’m stupid. Don’t just put in a bigger fuse–not what I meant. Put in a good fuse of the correct size for that circuit, and see if it gets hot. Ditto Dan re the wire gauge. Feel and see if its hot.But definitely install a headlight relay switch if there isn’t one on the circuit already. Relays make everything better.Your headlights might be…[Read more]

Sounds like a nice piece. Those old Moto Meters with the special wings & stuff on them can be spendy. Especially when they’re in antique shops. (or online). In old junk shops, or junk yards, (or online, elsewhere) they’re sometimes a bit cheaper. They might not be as rare as you first think. This one’s “buy-it-now” price is $55.Brass doesn’t rust,…[Read more]

    Ed,
I seriously thought of a Sharpie, but then figured I’d sneeze – oops, so then I thought of pinstriping, figured it peel off. I like the Rotozip idea. My Dremel will probably die half way thru, but the Rotozip should be good to go.

  • edward ericson replied to the topic Help Question in the forum General Discussion 15 years ago

Wow. You guys are hard core. I was thinking this winter I’d maybe get a heavier Sharpie and draw the black lines in my “louvers” a little thicker. Another possibility (for y’all front engine dudes): a Dremel or Rotozip drywall saw with a rip gauge.

    Dan,
I like your idea much better. Is this is about what you’re thinking about? Hey Shades of the Past….sounds like lots of fun!

James ,, that is a good idea too I figured I would try this in the winter not the driving season,, I was thinking cutting from the back side, at the high to the low side  of the fake louvers following the center line . when on the car, venting to the out side I don’t think i would sand  but use a cut disc saw blade no teeth and plenty of wat…[Read more]

Dan,I had thought about doing the same thing with my side panels. Here is a site that has a fiberglass hood with louvers. The photo of the underside appears like the glass has been ground down from the underside until the openings appear. That was the process that I was thinking about doing. I was thinking at the time while my side panel was face…[Read more]

  • paul,
Although I’m not from NJ I understand how states tend to follow each other. But I see some safety and Class issued at work here which as one sitting on the side lines don’t look all that good. Not so much the emmissions issue but possibly the seat belt laws. The “biggie” in my mind is saying that, for instance, my 53 MG TD Replicar on a VW…[Read more]

Gary If the fuse and wire getting hot if the fuse did not blow check that you have the correct gage wire to light ,it will over heat if it is to light to handle the amperage    Dan

  • edward ericson replied to the topic HOTT FuSE in the forum VW Based Kits 15 years ago

Do you have a relay switch installed? If so, maybe just change the fuse. I bew a couple yesterday for no apparent reason. Lots on my car are just old.

  • Competition starts at $5k. You might have a better car though, and his starting price is lower than the reserve price. So I think you’re in line. Probably cheap, for what it is.But, given the economy, you might have to wait for a buyer. Same thing is happening to the Speedster guys. Nice cars sitting on the board, awaiting buyers. Theirs go for…[Read more]
