Larry hit the nail on the head. And not only would the struts not fit, the upper mounts go to the steel VW body. That steel is, um, missing! on our TD replicas!

Although now Replicar Specific, I have the “BugMe” Video Series on CD. If there is anyone who would like to borrow one let me know. The electrical harness and floor pan replacement (body on and body off) is excellent. Just PM me if you need to borrow one.

Allen, It is because the super beetle used strut front suspension . To use a super beetle pan would require welding an adapter to the front of the pan to attach the beam suspension the regular beetles used.. I don’t think the struts would fit under the MG fenders.

I pulled up the Maine DMV website and the application form to apply for title. It required a Maine address, if I looked at it correctly. That could explain the 45-90 day delay that GTN mentions as it may need to be titled in a person’s name in Maine and then transfered to the proper owner. What would happen if they did not follow thru and in…[Read more]

I believe some owners of the Cobra community got in deep trouble with a company years ago relative to title washing. Be careful you could get yourself in big trouble. I have no direct experience however. I believe going up the chain at the RMV would better option since you seem to have a clear chain of custody.

As usual, Paul is wealth of unmarketable, but serioulsy valuable knowledge
Most of the latches, hinges, etc. can be had from a good local marine supply house (West Marine).
For VW parts, see http://www.thesamba.com classifieds and join their forum too. Another great source of unmarketable, but serioulsy valuable knowledgeThey are not as “fri…[Read more]

I appreciate it very much.
Paul, the hood latch that you have matches mine exactly. I’ll have to order one.

Paul, do you still have a scan of the Duchess wiring diagram? That will get me started, as the fog lights, horn, wipers, brake lights, and turn signals are presently not working. I guess it would have been easier to say the headlights work!

Ok, now you guys are going to have to stop that. I’m not sure I can live up to the pressure.
Wiring Harness – Dune buggy harnesses usually include what you need for a VW based kit car. Sources I have seen in other posts on the harness topic include:
Custom Wiring (http://www.customwiring.com/hotrods.html) says they have a harness for VW MGTD’s. …[Read more] -

I think you’re right; wipers, key switch & much electrical are VW items. The steering column mount on Bridget is a straight piece of perforated angle iron–same kind of stuff you mount overhead garage door tracks with, available at Home Despot & etc.Mirrors are easy, inner door panels you can make. Hood latches are probable pretty easy too. My car…[Read more]

Bill, I titled my car that was previously owned by two different owners and I believe I had a MSO from Fiberfab. It looks like an official document. If you need a copy I could probably find mine and send you a copy. Purchasing a kit car without all the documentation can cause some pain.

Glad to have you, JDD. These things are fun to tinker with. The 2.3 guys’ also have some fast ones. Have fun, post pictures and, by all means, cruise! More than half the fun is the reaction you get out on the road from regular people.
