Sadly congrats. I know you’ll miss her. If you’re REAL nice to Mel, I bet he will let you wash and polish his baby! I had been monitoring ebay and the last I saw was one bid at 9K, reserve not met. I hope you did great in the sale. Get some treats for Mel so he’ll let ya have a ride in his TD.
    I’ll adjust the registry.…

  • Gene,
Your engine number is well hidden. It is located on the block, passenger side, toward the front just below the exhaust port. If I remember correctly it is between the number one and two cylinder under the exhaust. It’s a bear to get to. I took my digital camera with flash to find it. Look around in that area. If you need an exact location I…[Read more]

  • I had a similar situation, and I live in PA also. My title was from Florida, in the builders name, and I had a bill of sale. I had no problem at all. I am in chester county in PA, where are you? I can send you to the Title guy I used.

  • Yes, my arms and fingers were tired. I didn’t do it all at once. A little bit each day and in a couple weeks a final result. Again I used a Turtle Wax product, Chrome and Metal polish on the chrome. Turtle wax works for me. The chrome does have some pitting and rust was beginning to form. I used a small brass brush on it and it cleaned up, then…[Read more]

  • Just about all the major parts stores carry a universal cable.Just cut to the needed length, comes with the crimp on end and little tool to do the crimping.Best way to cut is with a cut off wheel on a dremel tool.

Hi Jon,Sure is. Right here in my office.Send me a pm with your email address. I will scan and email you the Duchess VW wiring diagrams. The Classic Roadsters Duchess did not use the VW gas tank. CR provided a ten gallon tank which sits on the floor pan, right side of the tunnel, in front of the firewall. The filler tube runs off the front of the…[Read more]

I have sold cars in both N.Y and Tn. I am sure Pa. has the same basic rules the – A dealer can not sell a car on an– open title and must pay and collect the sales tax  as the 6 digit vin. that would be titled as a custom built , if the state has titled the car that way it must stay that way,,, state to state remember A states only business is t…[Read more]

  • My baby is dismantled right now. I can pull my cable out and measure it for you if that would help.

  • Outstanding job Paul. Bet your arms are worn out. How did you deal with the chrome? I have used a polish from Germany, it does a wonderful job but is too expensive. It is more like a jewelers polish.

  • PGA,
Nice color buff.  Good job on the chrome, too.
I think the key to getting that final finish on oxidized stuff is to be patient and be ready for some sore arms.

  • Welcome to the group!
Sorry, I have an electric speedo so I don’t know any part numbers. However, you might check with the manufacturer of the gauge.  They may require something defferent than the stock Pinto cable.

look under “columns and steering components”
Beware, though. If they say they have a 15.5-inch wheel it just might be a lie. The wheel is a full 17 inches in diameter (like the original Brooklands), and that makes for a tight squeeze into the driver’s seat.
I plan to raise my column up an inch or so when I re-do the dash.

  • When I bought my MG last September it was totally oxidized. I used Turtle – Rubbing Compound (heavy duty cleaner) and hours of rubbing. Then I went to Turtle – Rubbing Compound (Medium cut Compound) and more hours of rubbing.  Next I used Turtle – Polishing compound. It looked good but still not what I wanted. So, looked online and bought a p…[Read more]

Where did you get that awesome steering wheel?

  • Thank you for the words of advice and caution.   I will try to stay with the white gelcoat surface.

  • My gelcoat was totally dull and chalked. I used 600 grit wet-n-dry sandpaper and lightly removed the chalking, with lots of water and elbow grease. I then used white polishing compound and then Meguiars with UV protection. It took some hours, but it came out like a mirror. The gelcoat is about 1/32″ thick, enough for light (very light) sanding. Do…[Read more]

  • Since you seem to own the car with the past title and bill of sale.  I would take the old title to the local registry.  If they don’t like the vin I think your only option is to get a new vin thru the registy state new vin process.  Once you get the new Vin then you can get a new Title and registration.  Each state is more frustrating then the next.
