I will post a few pix tonight, but I used 2 X 2 aluminum angle, about two inches long, cut out to clear the manifold. I used the front, or hole closest to the side drivers side of the car to attach it.That allowed the bend in the cable to be a bit more gentle, and let me alter the linkage to my advantage. On the hump inside the car, I used to…[Read more]

Greg;
Any advice on the brackets? I sure would like to update my Ford throttle. Does yours attach to the manifold like the old one? If you have any, pictures would be great.
Thanks, Ringo

JWH,
Something to consider with a kit vs built.
Most of these cars and kits were made in the late ’70s to ’80s. Most were based on the easily obtained donor frames and drivetrains of the time, VW, Chevette, and Pinto. I don’t know about where you live, but around here I’ve only seen absolute rusted out hulks that would be a nightmare to bring up…[Read more] -

JWH,
To my knowledgle, BCW never made a Ford based car…Chevette and VW only. Most of their Chevette based cars were “turn-key” vehicles given as prizes in a Schweppe’s Beverages promotion. They did sell a few Chevette based cars as unassembled kits and turn key units that were not related to the Schweppe’s Contest. The rarer VW based BCW kits…[Read more] -

It is not a stock speedo cable. But I forget how long the substitute is.Remember, the driving position is basically the back seat of the original VW. So the dash is pushed towards the rear too.

Under the seat you guys are great, Ally runs and shifts great, I think she runs on a 1971 rebuilt VW. Very stable frame, Nice smooth ride, I love it, Being a Ford A guy, I wasn’t sure this car would be for me. What a suprise. Fun, Zippy and the wind in my face, I’m going to find another. Thier small don’t take up much space. I’m having a blast.…[Read more]

Larry, Just curious, How did you get that gelcoat to that level of shine? What product and procedure did you use. Awesome TD, but the level of shine is great

I have a BMC Chevette based car and a Fiberfab Pinto based car. The BCW is a much more faithful reproduction then the Fiberfab. It is also a sturdier body. I think that the only really good looking VW based kits are beach buggies, but that is a personal thing. A TD was a front engined car and I believe a replica should also. However, that being…[Read more]

Owned my Ford TD for 20 years and I keep improving on it. The front suspension fron the MustangII is the suspension of choice for street rod builders and parts and upgrades are readily available from a variety of sources. The 2.3 ford engine is almost bulletproof, and parts are plentiful from old Pintos to mid ’90’s Rangers and Mustangs. If you…[Read more]

Hey there, very nice car…where did you get the Shriner emblem? I am also a Shriner in Arkansas and that would look great on my MGTD. I use in parades a lot.
If you can, email me and let me know at kwhepp@sbcglobal.net. Kenny -

Ed,
I agree with larry it would be fun but could be an expensive option. It will be interesting to see if electric works out in the next couple of years.
Factory Five is working on it today. See link below

I saw a mgtd replica that had been converted to electric for sale on ebay a while back and the trunk and area behind the seat were all filled with batteries. While an electric conversion would be quite a novelty, I think it would be better suited in a car used for short commutes than in a replica which would probably be driven for pleasure.I…[Read more]

Hi John, Glad you are interested in MGreplicas. Keep in mind that the following remarks are my personal opinions as well as personal preferences. I have owned a VW based car for fifteen years and it is hard to beat the VW dependability and economy as well as parts availability, but having recently aquired a BCW Chevette based car, I really like…[Read more]

Richard,Any engine code beginning with “AD” is a replacement block. Your block was never supplied in a new cars, it was sold “over the counter”. All are dual-relief with 10mm oil passages.

Richard, Could you be a little more specific? Is the shifter lever stiff and hard to move or loose and floppy? Are you able to shift from one gear to another and is it more difficult if the engine is running? If your car is a VW based replica ,the VW shifter should be beneath a removable cover either under or between the seats. Perhaps the flex…[Read more]
