James,
This is killing us guy! It’s getting to be like a soap opera! We’re all hoping for the best, but dang, tear that thing apart already so we can all know the outcome!
I’m almost ready to jump on a plane to Memphis with my tool kit in tow.
Still hoping for a low cost finding for you!

Update:
The oil was fine, no indication of metal bits. The clutch area is fine as best as I can tell. It seems to narrow down to the block area which probably means bearing. I can easily get the pan off, and think I will do that before pulling the engine out. I doubt if I can see anything since the bearings will be covered. I have located a…[Read more] -

James:
It gets better I found a MG show about two hours drive away. It’s in Waterford Ct on the north shore of L.I. sound.
I printed the info yesterday and showed it to her last night. I asked if she wanted to go and make a day trip of it.
Her answer was………………………………YES
Now i’m worried that she will drive the car all the t…[Read more] -

I took a look tonight and I think you might be able to get it fixed without lifting the engine. I used an inspection mirror and I can see the tube into the engine block. Yeah, it’s kinda inside the engine mount, but I was able to get my hand up on the tube from underneath and still see with the mirror all the way to the block.
It’ll b…[Read more] -

Mel,
My wife would be tugging on me to go the entire time. To her a car is a car, it’s only the color that matters. But get her at a yard sale, and it’s me tugging on her to go as she has to examine everything…everything. And she cannot leave without buying something, anything. When we have a yard sale I take the MGTD out front with a yard…[Read more] -

We really had a good time inspite of the weather. Best news is the wife had a great time and wants to go to more shows.

My issue is not so much getting the guide to stay in,more trying to get at the entrance on the block without having to jack up the engine. Any easy suggestions for dealing with that? We’re having trouble accessing the hole easily.TTFN Jennifer

Hey Mark,
Thanks! Way to burst my bubble!Just kidding. I though the guy was nuts when he had a starting bid of $9K. I couldn’t believe it when I saw one bid! If it was a real bid, he should have SOLD it! I was also suspicious. Probably exactly what you said.

You have to watch these eBay auctions. They have there friends bid the car up to just below the reserve hoping that they’ll draw someone into bidding the reserve or higher.
That car appeared really nice, but I’ll bet that’s who the bidders mostly were on this one.
eBay was great when there were no reserves and the bidding started at $1.00. -

Man it’s scary how alike we are…almost all eligible for Social Security and now recalling days when we could fit in British sports cars…let alone jump out of one while it was moving!
My first car was a ’59 Beetle that I paid $40 for. The 36hp engine was seized. I bought a rebuild kit that included the bearings, gaskets and a set of barrels…[Read more] -

Mel,
Small world.
My friend Steve, owns a black MGA that is in the background of a couple of the Clipper Blue TD photos. He would like a small royalty payment. And you caught Steve in one photo (fifth photo, 2nd pic of the deep red TD, wearing red Rutgers sweatshirt). He will be send you a model’s release and payment form. 🙂
