Gene, I deleted your duplicate post on this subject as well as the one in Site-Input called “Test”.
Ringo has some good advice. Good luck and let us know how you make out. There are very few platers left here in NJ…If you can;t find a place to repair and replate your shell, let us know. -

When it comes to automotive work, I’ve found that it costs me less it I let the professional handle it from the start. I just finished doing as you suggested and emailed photos for estimates. I just added Advanced Plating to the list as well.

Hey Gene,Some ideas on what you could try. If you’re handy and want to buy some new tools, check out “How to Restore Metal Auto Trim” by Jeff Lilly. His techniques can get you pretty close to straight on the shell. Then contact a re-chroming shop, not a body shop, and see what they say. Or ask the chrome shop if they can do all the work. …[Read more]

LarryThe cowl had a flat raised spot on each side and a 1/2 inch by 3X1 1/2 steel insert bonded in.After removing it I shaped the sides to fit with glass and also glassed the under side. I will use backing plates when I install the unit. My surprise was when the square was removed the wind shield fit to a tee. If I had not found the 52 windshield…[Read more]

Bill, Your windshield project is looking great. It is really going to make your car look much more authentic. Just curious, did you have to reshape the cowel ,removing the flat spots on each side where the brackets attach or was your cowel shaped as shown in the pictures? Please post more pictures when you get it done. Larry M.

Here’s a BCW kit that just sold . I have to say I thought it would bring more money. The guys at Barrett-Jackson would describe this as “Well Bought”

DickYou need to read my thread under chevy/ford kits about oil pressure gauge problems. The stock Chevy sender you buy at local parts stores will not work with the Classic Instrument gauge!!BTW, anyone need a couple of new stock Ford sending units?

Thanks. I’m trying to install a Classics Instruments gauge with an electrical
pickup on the sender. I hadn’t though about it, but I’ll see if I can keep the
oil pressure warning light. -
Mark Hendrickson replied to the topic Fiberfab windshield frame in the forum VW Based Kits 16 years, 1 month ago
You’re right Rich…those covers were an option on the FiberFab kits.
My OEM windscreen frame on my BCW actually folds down flat on the hood/cowl
I guess on long trips, you lay the windscreen flat and have bugs for dinner! Cuts down on time lost stopping to eat. The moths give you “cotton mouth” though.

The Chevette’s oil filter displaces more cc’s than the engine

Hi Dick If you pop the oil filter off ,you will be able to see it and get a wrench on it. Had the same prob a month ago. Good luck

Todd,
Just an FYI
Funny thing about this is that looking back at the FiberFab promo material photos, they apparently made the kit with and without that additional aluminum “flange”. I don’t recall that it was an option. Mine is a FiberFab and it has the flanges.

The stock MG-TD windshield frame will not fit a FiberFab car without a lot of modification. The cowl is shaped different than a real TD.

GM hid the sender where Bill said it is. Maybe looking up from under the car would help?
Are you installing an electrical or mechanical gauge?
Also, try using a “T” and reconnect the idiot light sender too. -
Bill Hursh replied to the topic Stumped in the forum General Discussion 16 years, 1 month ago
Hi Dick,
The sender should be to the right of the distributer, under the intake manifold. Or at least it is on my 84 chevette td. It is tucked in and difficult to see.
Good luck, Bill - Load More
