Hey Mark,
I had the same issue here in North Ga. with the air thing and all and I just took the vin off the frame and had it re-registered with Haggerty to show it as so, mine shows as a modified VW 1974 for taging and insureance purpose.
Try it !!

Badge bars are nothing more than deck rails for boats. Any decent boat supply (West Marine, etc.) should have the two mounts and be able to supply a length of “bar” to fit your needs.
By the way, boat hardware is the “way to go” with hardware on the bodies of these cars. The chrome and stainless steel are much higher quality than any used FiberFab stuff. -

Royse, the brackets are not VW,and the bumpers are not either.VW bumpers are much more curved. They will hit the tires in the front and the fenders in the rear.MG Magic has all of it,I just bought rear brackets for a car I am finishing. It is pretty hard to not cannibilize the unbuilt one I have.It may happen yet,as since I advertised it I have…[Read more]

Thanks Keith! I thought that may be the case. I’ll let you know if I find another option. I wonder if I had a window if it would make it easier to pattern and reproduce.

Dear Wendy
I just received that parts list via e-mail from MG Magic. Itv
appears that they have both plywood unfinished and walnut finished
dashboards. Please give them a try. Brad there is very
helpful, Arm youself with the number of your car which can be
found under the front hood on the fire wall. He’ll then be able
to tell you ever…[Read more] -

Unless you can find a trim shop close to you that can do it reasonably, you are going to have to buy a top and side curtain assembly. There were a lot of different tops built and side curtains are not available separately.I hear people talk about going to boat shops, but it does not work here. The LOW rate I have found here is $60.per hour.Shops here…[Read more]

Thanks Bill,
Another question… on my MiGi, the “S” brackets that hold the front/rear bumpers. Are these VW?? If so, I can’t seem to locate. And the bumpers.. they are VW pre-68 correct?
Like I said before… I’ve restored quite a few cars. Mostly US manufacture from the 40’s-50’s, but VW based is new to me.
By the way… these buggers co…[Read more] -

And the final picture is one showing the new white wall radials installed including the spare. I have had her at 83+mph and it still drives like a dream with these radials. I got the tires from Coker Tires in TN…kinda expensive, but the car now turns heads everywhere it goes (I was told the tires were one of the reasons the Ad Agency wanted th…[Read more]

Here’s a picture of the dash with the glove box door opened to show the stereo & heater controls hidden behind it. I built in a magnetic catch into the dash so the door closes flush, but it is easy to open to adjust the radio while keeping one hand on the wheel driving.
Making room for dash mounted speakers was a real treat, as you have very lim…[Read more] -

Hi Wendy,
Not sure about the woodworking guy. But I would start by looking under Cabinet maker or something similar in the yellow pages.
Your turn signal/running light problem sounds like the wrong bulb. I’ve never had a problem…and my Duchess has been on the road for 24 years. It does not sound like a wiring problem. I’ll check the bulb…[Read more] -

This is the “work” in progress! What a nightmare to figure out the re-wiring without a valid diagram…lots of trial by error by blowing fuses and bulbs…LOL I decided to install courtesy lights in the footwells so they go on whenever either door is opened…nice touch for night use.
Even getting the new steering wheel was a challenge as I h…[Read more] -

I finished the rebuild finally and here is the end result. I used solid Zebrawood to fabricate the dash; new steering wheel with MG emblem; new chrome turn signals as these were coroded; installed a heater core shut off valve to kill the heat that seems to creep up on you while driving in the summer; new wide whitewall radials that really h…[Read more]
