I have a similar problem being 6′ plus and 230 Right now I have the seats out and was trying to figure out how to make adjustments to seat height and set back for the back that would move me back from 3″ dish steering wheel. Removed 2″ spacers that had been put under fibreglass seat frame as line of sight with them in had my head looking over th…[Read more]

Same steering wheel as Spechols, and it is under the dash.
Since I’ve got to look at all that because of my steering trouble I’ll see if it can be moved upward at all. I recall the shaft/rod exposed under the hood is a tight fit against the gas tank or side panel. I could be remembering wrong. Farther into the dash would help most, meaning cutting… -

Or maybe a Subaru Legacy? 😛
Don’t know about Bill … my previous DD was a Subaru Impreza Sport AWD.No significant snow until 8 years after I bought it. Finally got to try driving in about 6 inches (8″ off the road), same as its ground clearance. Only drove a couple miles when I realized the wheel wells were solid with snow and ice making turns… -

I was 5’11” and abt 212# with the short legs of one who was only 5’2″ when I got my MIGI. I found that moving the steering column up (if your’s is mounted below the dash) made the seating position much more comfortable. It involves cutting into your dash, but is not too difficult. Also, moving the wheel close as possible to the dash made a bi…[Read more]

I sure could use that extra 3″ back from the steering wheel, at just 175 Lbs and 6′ tall.
Thought about cutting away at the shelf behind the seat if that could be done without weakening whatever structure there, maybe just reinforcing it differently afterward.Just changing the seatback itself sounds much easier, if the padding could still be… -

You can never have too many ground cables/straps.

Yeah, the folding windshield works fine with cowl-mounted wipers. The TF had that setup.

True that the cowl mounted VW wipers look like they could interfere, but mine are comfortable under the windshield when folded. No problem. (Daytona MIGI with brackets that I modified.)

Thanks, Jack. I have ordered from them a couple times. I suspect it’s cheaper if you can pick up stuff locally, and way cheaper to go pick stuff from a scrapper or metal recycling outfit, but you can’t beat the convenience.

Hey Ed,
That link to http://WWW.ONLINEMETALS.COM is a GREAT reference for anyone needing metal to build/patch/fix stuff — but a lot of people may not click on it in the post so I thought I’d highlight it for folk’s future reference…. -

Subaru?? If BILLNPARTS has one to go along with his Tdr it’s gotta be a WRX…!!! as in speed, agility, fun to drive — sort of like a Tdr, only with the speed and agility added…

I was thinking along the same lines as Ed but I was pushing snow up to my hood on the Subaru this morning. Had to dig myself out twice just to get to work. Traction not the problem, just not enough ground clearance. The MG can rest quietly.

The original top stays are pretty simple and Moss sells them (90a–$6). You just embed the sockets in a piece of hardwood, 2 x 5/4 or so, and wrap that in the canvas. You then just need two thumb screws to hold the front bow to the windshield pins.
To use the zip-in side curtains just have your top maker put the zipper along the sides of the top.… -

Almost makes me want to get on the road today in the snow while it isn’t freezing yet. 😉 Naaaah!
Looks like NC will be warmer but wetter than normal during the next few months, if weather predictions are to be believed. Average for where I am though, and May tends to have a little more rain than April.About the getting in and out of car with side… -

First time I ever drove my Duchess on public roads, it snowed. Not a lot. But enough to christen the car. I finished her in December 1982. And was going to drive her no matter what.Coldest drive is probably a tie between the Pumpkin run a couple years ago and heading to the VA Beach show a couple years ago.Air temp was around 30 degrees both…[Read more]
